If JLY is leaving who's replacing him?

Since it seems like JLY will be leaving when his contract is up, unless someone knows/hears something else, who should replace him? Bump up someone in the Broadway company? Take someone from one of the touring companies? Hire a new person? Discuss.

Maybe you should respect the fact he is still on Broadway and not try to replace him before he is gone.

Don't be so sensitive! It's not like JLY is being cast aside. (No pun intended.) He finally got his big break and we're all happy for him. The opportunities that have opened for him as a result of JB (both professionally and financially) would probably stagger most of us. He's done very, very well for himself and has decided to move on to persue other projects. Be happy for him, and let it go already. I think it's only human to wonder who will be cast in the role.

It will be a really tough period for the OBC'ers, plus the fans worldwide too. I know that it's normal for us to speculate and pick our choices for replacements, but think that the "higher ups" already have their minds made and we'll just have to wait and see.

On the 21st, business will be as normal as it can get for me, because I just don't want to feel uncomfortable that he'll be leaving, or put out a vibe showing sadness. He's done so much to help with donations for my son's drama program, in addition to valuable advice that he was honored to receive, from a Tony Winner, for furthering and improving his drama skills/career.

I can speculate and choose my favorites till I turn blue, but instead will enjoy every minute of having JLY around till it's time..... I'm sure he'll do just as great in the future as he did with portraying "Frankie", but we'll support him just as much because his fanbase is only getting stronger.

I don't think the producers would pull Jarrod out of the SF/Chicago company since they are just starting their run in Chicago. Too early in the run for a shake up with that cast. Although I wouldn't be suprised if he's the Broadway Frankie eventually, he just probably won't be the first replacement Frankie.

And, wherever JLY goes and whatever JLY, does - he will have a huge fan base who will follow him! IE

Jarrod would be my first choice if he were to be chosen as John's replacement too. If that would not be possible, then I'd have to pick from John Michael Dias, Steven Goldsmith or John Michael Coppola, if Michael Longoria or Travis Cloer are not "promoted". The Chicago Cast pretty much has four "Frankies", so it would make sense to pull from that talent pool instead of hiring "from outside".

Irene, Thats why I'm so happy JLY has his web page. It will be so nice to read about everything he will be doing. At least that gives me a reason not to be so upset:( Your so right he will always be The Only "FRANKIE" for me too..Jody

I agree Irene and jojen - so great to have JLY's website and new address so we can keep in touch with him - it would be awful to loose touch with him and not know what he is doing! I think Jarrod Spector would be a natural replacement for John, since they are so similiar in appearance, etc. No one will ever take JLY's place - he's one of a kind, but I think Jarrod would be a close second and the public would accept him due to the similiarities to John! I read somewhere that John likes Jarrod as Frankie!

Hi JanHaas, I also read that. But your right Jarrod does look enough like JLY that he could be related:) And just from the video that I watched, he moves like John too...Jody

I think JLY helped Jarrod when he was auditioning and training for the Frankie Valli role. Jarrod thanks JLY in the playbill. It's a demanding role and I could see a lot of improvement in Jarrod's performance each time I went to see him. He's really dedicated to his craft. I hope he goes far in his career also.

Someone posted it on the message boards over on Broadwayworld.com. You have to take things you read over there with a grain of salt, and read them withing context of the discussion that going on. Although I'm sure JLY has respect for Jarrod, they both had to go through the same process to get into the show. They probably have that war buddy thing between them.

And by the way I'm suprised no one has metioned anyone from the Sherry cast as a possible replacement if they're going to pull someone from one of the other companies. I think Chirs or Rick would do a fantastic job if they were tapped for the Broadway company. With that company I've only seen Chris' Frankie but I've heard great things about Rick's from people who have seen him. And like I said earlier. Although I know anyone from the Chicago company who covers Frankie (Spector, Dias, Goldsmith, or Coppola) would be a fantastic replacement for JLY. I don't think the producers would pull one of them for Broadway because they just started their run in Chicago. They may not want to do any major casting changes so early into it.

Mike, I think that no matter the situation, the producers will pick the best they have for Broadway. The best, not the most convenient. We'll all just have to wait and see. I'm still not sure that JLY is finished here.

Even though this is purely speculation, when I have asked people associated with the August Wilson theater, they seem to think (and this is speculation on their part), that Michael Longorio, who has been Frankie on Wednesday and Saturday matinees, will assume the 6 day a week performances and Travis Cloer will replace Michael and do the Wednesday and Saturday matinees. JLY was out last night. Speculation from someone I know who saw him Thursday night is that his voice was a little hoarse during this performance towards the end, and the theater got word very late Friday afternoon that he would not be performing that night. Travis was his replacement. This was the third time I got to see Travis as Frankie and his voice is exceptional!!

Tally: Do you see my point now??

I have so much respect and gratitude for John still being on Broadway and hold out hope that he could be there longer, by some miracle. Why not let the producers know how much his performance and personality has contributed to this show.

This is just shooting from the hip, but seeing that there are 8 performances a week and the role is so vocally taxing, why not have 2 actors do 4 shows per week?

    Hi, Gary,

I love the way you think. What a great idea? A, if you get the e-mail address, maybe we could all e-mail Dodger to see if a part time situation could be worked out for JLY.

Gary, it was great seeing you yesterday. I normally look better than I did yesterday. See you late on the 21st. IE

Under all the LINKS on the JB Blog's home page (lower right margin)- the first link provided is to the show's website- Jersey Boys Broadway. (I don't want to be responsible for them being inundated... I'll leave it at that.)

If JLY is leaving and wants to come back to the role later on, I'm sure the producers would let him play Frankie Valli again in a second.

Mike, John told me himself that he likes Jarrod as Frankie. He thinks he puts a wonderful amount of heart into the role, and he would love if he were the guy to replace him.

As for the part time thing, I think you guys should all take a look at the quote John left on his blog the other day:

"Seek opportunity, not security. A boat in the harbor is safe, but in time its bottom will rot out."

I am thinking of myself - whenever I sought another opportunity - I still was involved with what I was currently doing. Maybe, in the entertainment world, this is different. IE

I think if anyone would replace JLY it would probaly be Christopher Kale Jones. If he is leaving,he would probaly announce this at the party October 21. John Lloyd Young has introduced Broadway to so many people. Young and old. Good Luck to what ever you do John and we know you will do it well! Thea
