Andrew Rannells!

Just had to start a new topic especially for the fantastic Andrew Rannells! (Couldn't find one all about him, but sorry if there is one and I missed it, I'm a newbie!) Saw Jersey Boys for the first time when I was in New York - my first Broadway musical and a it turned out to be a fab choice!!! Was totally blown away by the whole show and the whole cast, but in particular Andrew Rannells as Bob Gaudio really stood out for me, I couldn't take my eyes off him when he was on stage, he was so engaging and his voice blew me away! Now obviously I've not seen anyone else in the role, but I know he must be good to keep so much of my attention, and for me not to stop talking about him since! (And to post on one of these things, which usually scare me as I'm a technophobe!) I've seen a LOT of musicals (I live just outside London and so am lucky enough to be able to visit the West End on a regular basis!) but can name very few standout performers like Andrew. Now I'm desperate to come back to America so I can see them again, I'm worried the West End cast will not compare!

Also have to mention Dominic Scaglione Jr who was on as Frankie, seems to be a relatively new talent in the Broadway circle, but already very popular, and I'm sure he will go far. But for me Andrew was the number one star of the show!

Sorry to go on! It's just nice to talk to other people who appreciate such an amazing show! Long may it continue!

It is well known that I LOVE LOVE LOVE our Stephen Ashfield here in London...but I have to admit Andrew was my first LOVE in JB! Saw him in Toronto and have nothing but fab things to say about him!!! Stephen plays the role differently so its hard to compare the two of them, but you're right Cazzie, there is just something about Andrew...he really is an amazing performer!

Andrew is awesome. His voice is so smooth and those eyes sparkle on stage. I first saw Erich Bergen and was so in love with that performance I didnt think anyone else could impress me. I was wrong. Andrew blew me away as well. Now I just love them both equally. Two very different approaches...but both are excellent. It will always be a tie on Bob's for me :)

Ooh, you've talked to him, Phillygalg!? I bet he's a lovely chap!

Megs, I am planning to see the show in London as soon as I can, although I'm worried the cast will not compare to how much I enjoyed the Broadway cast, I guess there's always someone you love in the original cast you see and it's hard to give anyone else a go! But I look forward to checking out Stephen Ashfield's take on Bob!

And Churchers, I have no doubt you will LOVE the Broadway cast! They are all fantastic - obviously, again, I have no-one to compare to, but if the other casts I see are even half as good, I will love the show every time I see it! But I would SWIM across the Atlantic to see the Broadway Boys again!!!

Everyone enjoy whichever casts you are going to see next!

    Cazzie,

If you go back to the blog (not the forum) and put in a search for Andrew, you'll find all sorts of information, including a blog interview that was done with him when he first joined the cast of JB in San Francisco. He is a great talent and a terrific guy.

CazzieT - no worries - you will love the London cast just as much. I have seen quite a few casts and they were all - fabulous. I got to meet the London Cast at the stage door and they were wonderful. Anyone who can see more than one cast is extremely fortunate although I envy the London folks being able to go as often as they do.

Thanks MamaLucy! I like Andrew more with everything I read and hear about him, he seems so down to earth and humble, I find the most talented ones usually are!

And thanks Phillygalg, I am looking forward to seeing the London cast, my Mum has seen the show in London and loved it, and the show itself is so fantastic that it clearly gets the cream of the acting and singing talent out there, and every cast I'm sure will blow me away! Bring it on, I say!

I haven't seen Andrew onstage, although I have met him, which was a pleasure. (In fact, he interrupted his cell phone conversation to say hello.) You've given me something to look forward to, CazzieT.

Andrew is so good that the growth from the 16 year old Bob to the adult is seamless but so believable. His voice is so sweet during "Cry For Me" that I will never forget each performance. Meeting him 4 times was an absolute pleasure.

Audrey, I promise he will be well worth the wait! What a sweetie he sounds! If you are seeing the Broadway cast none of them will disappoint you - can't speak for the Frankies as I saw Dominic Scaglione Jr and I understand he has now moved on (but like someone else said, Broadway's loss is Chicago's gain!) but if Jarrod and the new alternate Frankie (Cory?) are anything like the rest of the boys and the cast, you are in for a treat!

And Phillygalg, you've met him 4 times! I'm starting to get jealous now, lol! I wish America was closer to England! Or that I was a stronger swimmer and the Atlantic wasn't so big!!! At least it sounds like I have a lot to look forward to in London.

Does anyone know how long Andrew is contracted to the Broadway cast? I know he's only been there since January so I'm crossing everything that he'll still be there on my return in October!!! I don't know how long people tend to stick with one cast! Alternatively, he is welcome to join the National Touring Cast and pop by Philadelphia while I'm there!!!

PS - Totally agree about the growth of his character, it really is seamless from start to finish, and his vocals are beautiful. Can't say enough good stuff about this guy - poor Stephen Ashfield has a lot to live up to!

I'm with CazzieT. I couldn't take my eyes off of Andrew each time he was on. Love to watch the cute, funny facial expressions he makes. He does have that youthful quality about him. Andrew is now the Bob I've seen the most and has come to be my favorite Bob. (I've seen Daniel Reichard, Eric Gutman and Sebastian Arcelus in that role before.)

I totally agree Nancy. I was lucky to see Andrew 4 times with the tour and also meet and great at the stage door. He is absolutely adorable and his "Oh What a Night" is a real charmer. I hope to get to see him again some time.

Andrew is wonderful and such a nice guy, however, I believe that Sebastian Arcelus is coming back to the show as Bob Gaudio once he's done with his show at Lincoln Center

Sometimes it is difficult to know who is going where. To be perfectly honest, I don't care who is in what part as long as I can see this wonderful show again and again.

  20. When I heard he transferred to Broadway, I'm totally sold on catching JB again when I go to NY in September. Only for the fact that Dominic Nolfi and Andrew have been in Pokemon Live. As silly as it sounds, Pokemon is part of my childhood and it would be great to see Pokemon Master Dominic Nolfi (Ash) go up against Team Rocket Andrew (James).

Gonna have to convince the significant other...hehe.

We're trying to get to the Broadway show before Andrew leaves. Does anyone know his last day on Broadway? And where he's going after that? Thank you.

So let's word the question this way then...when does Sebastian finish his show at Lincoln Center? Will that give a clue as to how long we have to see Andrew in NY?

Leanna, impressive investigative reporting - truly. Having seen Sebastian, I was really hoping to see Rannells before he leaves. The clock is ticking. Where is Andrew going next?

Andrew is fantastic and so charming to meet. I saw Sebastian in NY last December but was hoping to catch up to Andrew again when I am in NY in October. I think is the best "young" Bob around. Luckily....I like every actor in every roll that I have seen in this show. I am always, always amazed at the depth of talent.

I'm so disappointed that I'll not get a chance to see Andrew in the role. Ditto to phillygalg's question...where is he going? Another JB cast would give my chance of seeing him a small stay of execution.
