I am up to 17 or 18 times beginning November 30, 2005. I have seen the four main guys (OBC) every time except once each. I consider myself extremely fortunate!! I have saved all my tickets. I have tickets for November 18th and Nov. 30 (may need to sell the four on the 30th, though.) Also have some tickets for next Spring. Would REALLY love to see the other casts.

Hi Helen, I will be seeing the matinee show in Tampa with my family on Sunday, March 2nd. 6th row just off center (the closest I have ever been!). The best seats I ever had for the OBC was the first month it opened here (November, 2005 right?) I had 7th row center and my boy Dominic Nolfi wooed me into that JB delirium we all suffer from. Thanks, Dom! (although Christian Hoff had a little to do with it too, hehe!) Rick Faugno usually does the Sunday show as Frankie and I can't wait to see him again!

Gary, I had the pleasure of interviewing Dom Nolfi for the Blog on Friday evening, and you're absolutely right. Although he might give the impression of a bit of arrogance on stage (as Christian Hoff does), he's an amazingly humble, grateful, gracious, and funny guy offstage--with an amazingly infectious laugh. In fact, we had a hilarious interchange (won't make it into the interview) where he assumes I'm his aunt's age (60), and I pretend to be quite offended (I'm 56)--and later in the session I refer to my friend Jana Robbins' 60th b-day cabaret show, and he deadpans, "Now that was her 60th party, and not yours--right??"

I also interviewed Colin Donnell on Friday (who feels our Blog is so important, he dressed in a jacket and tie for the interview). Col is now training to be a backup for the Bob Gaudio character as well as his present Nick Massi.

BTW, the reason these guys stay in shape is the climb to their dressing rooms. Col's is on the 4th floor and Dom's on the 5th--with two staircases between floors. I haven't had so much exercise in about ten years!

Sounds like you had a great time Howard (minus the steps). I saw Dominic at Daniel's Kegger and he seemed like a very fun loving guy. Can't wait to read those interviews. Did either of the guys mention if they were coming on the 21st?

Gary, I can't believe that it has almost been 3 years since I saw JB pre-broadway in La Jolla. I remember David Norona owning the stage with his on point portrayal of "Frankie". He had that incredible sweet strong falsetto and the natural chemistry between the other Four Season characters was undeniable. There was so much intoxicating energy that night and I remember a very long standing "O" after the show. It was disappointing when word came out that DN was not going on to Broadway. How would they ever find someone else in this "Star Making" role?

Honestly, I didn't think they would until I saw JLY's performance approximately 15 months latter. I was completely blown away and for the first time brought to tears. JLY emoted every word of dialogue and really captured the emotional essence of "Frankie". I really felt deep down inside the joy, anguish and pain in his performance. Also thought that JLY's progression from boy to man was incredible....really nailed it. Vocally I believe both DN and JLY mastered the trademark Valli sound. JLY is definitely the most charismatic "Frankie" that I have seen. Nothing beats the wrenching and adorable facial expressions he makes when he sings.

    Blessings,
    Charly

Gary...I don't think I will see it more than twice in Tampa, so I probably won't have a chance to meet you at the Performing Arts Center. I will be in NYC June 6-9 and will see it on Broadway once again...that will bring my total to 6 (will be 3 on Broadway, one in Chicago and 2 in Tampa).

    Wow, I love this thread!

I've seen the show a total of 5x--all in the course of one year! I've never done that with any show.

The first and second time were in NY with JLY which is why he's my FAVORITE Frankie!
(I agree with you all--your first Frankie will be your favorite, as well as the other guys you first see).
Third was SF with Jarrod Spector--fabulous and reminded me of JLY in looks and mannerisms.
Fourth was Sac with Rick Faugno--good.
Fifth was NY with Travis Cloer--really great although I'm still disappointed JLY got sick that night since he's the one I came to see.

I had partial view orchestra seats the first time in NY followed by two premium seats which were expensive, but so WORTH IT--I got Row D and Row E, center.

We are very blessed to be able to have the means to see Broadway shows whether it's once or more than once...not everyone has this opportunity.

About David Norona--I've seen him on a couple of TV shows and didn't realize he was the La Jolla Frankie at first.

I wonder how he feels not going on to Broadway--if he has regrets. I heard two reasons and not sure which is true...1) he broke his vocal chords or something and was unable to go to Broadway or 2) he chose not to go because he wanted to focus on his Hollywood acting career.

Either way, his not going to Broadway was the open door for our beloved JLY to win the role and be on the road to stardom and change his life forever.

I seem to be the only person who didn't think JLY and Jarrod were that similar. ;) I got a John Coppola vibe at times, actually.

Leanna: I don't think they are similiar either other than they are of a certain height, dark-haired, young and handsome!! Jarrod looks younger than JLY which makes it a little more difficult to pull off the age progression which JLY does really well. JLY puts a huskiness in his voice and slightly hunches his shoulders in the second act. JLY also puts a little edginess in his falsetto which is similiar to Frankie's. Jarrod's is more a pure falsetto. He doesn't seem older to me until the Francine scene at the end. That being said, I think Jarrod acting "style" is similiar to JLY's in a lot of areas. He is terrific in the role and deserves all the accolades that Chicago press is heaping upon the production.

You make it sound like JLY is really old. He isn't. He just has this amazing ability to act older.

I could be wrong on this, but I think I remember reading that David Norona's wife was expecting their second child and that is the primary reason he decided not to go to Broadway. I get the impression that he's more suited for television anyway.

In another area (still regarding the La Jolla production), I read in an interview with Steve Gouveia that some changes were made to the script before they took the show to B'way. One change that really struck me was Francine's death scene. What we see now is the nurse bringing Frankie the box with "Valli" written on the side. The original scene was Francine's dead body rolled out on a gurney by two orderlies. Can you just imagine the horror of that? Steve said it was a very heavy-handed scene and, quite frankly, too much for the audience to bear so they decided to axe it. Wow.

That's true, Tally. John acts AMAZINGLY young right at the beginning and ages just perfectly... parallel to the character's aging. It is a work of performing art.

People start crying when the box comes out. If they kept the gurney the whole audience would probably start bawling. That would just make the scene too emotionally heavy.

They also mention the gurney in this La Jolla review: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/features/20041020-9999-1c20jersey.html
(And the real Frankie mentions it here: http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20041107/news_1a7valli.html )

P.S. I did love the way JLY reacted with the box -- by not ever looking at it, even when he had it in his lap.

I'm pretty sure JLY didn't always do the age progression thing, I don't remember it from the first time I saw JB. I find it interesting how they "experiment" and "refine" things all the time.

I saw JB on Broadway in previews and the age progression was always there. It has gotten better and better, but, it was always there.

Wow, I never knew that about that scene. I think the gurney would be a little much. The box is so powerful.

Tally, I didn't mean to make it sound like JLY is old, it's his acting ability I was remarking on. It's really amazing that he looks 40 years older than the first scene. I was quite startled to see how young he looked at the stage door!!

Last night @ the San Diego Civic Theatre was #15 for me and the 3rd time seeing the Sherry Cast. Performance was great but the dynamic slightly different since Erich Bergen(Bobby)was out and his understudy Miles Aubrey was in. The San Diego audience was thrilled to have 3 native sons Deven May(Tommy), Steve Gouveia (Nicky)and Brandon Mattieus (Hal Miller & Others) on stage. At the end the Cast spoke about BC/EFA. Wonderful gesture as 50% of the donations went to the San Diego Red Cross(Fire Fund).

I saw Miles Aubrey's first performance as Bob -- he was excellent. (It was BC/EFA time then, too.) Are they auctioning off rag dolls this go-around?

I've seen Miles go on as Bob. I thought he was great but I did have a problem believing him as the pre "Oh What A Night" young and naive Bob but it's only because his look didn't fit the age of Bob at the time. But post "Oh What A Night" he's fine.

So, since Jeresey Boys has left San Francisco. I doubt my count will be changing any time soon.
So after basically having Jersey Boys in San Francisco for a year, with three different casts, I've seen it 28 times. Damn, that's alot, although I know there are some people who have seen it way more times then I have.
