The movie idea has been in the works for some time. (Follow the "movie" tag: http://jerseyboysblog.com/forums/tags.php?tag=movie )
It's also one of THOSE topics. You've been warned. ;)

You like to think outside the box?? How about if they do something REALLY unique and release multiple cast productions? Wouldn't that be a media magnet?! Any time you enter the 'never-been-done-before' realm. Set up each scene and run it with two or three sets of guys, but the same support cast. Guarantee a discussion in every film school class for many years to come!!
Speaking of THOSE topics, unfortunately there are a few topics which seem to bring out contentious and/or negative comments. As a result, activity on the forum has diminished. But this is not an indication that the enthusiasm for the show has diminished.
I think most fans who were active on the forum at one time still read it, but are not inclined to post anything.
'Sup, y'all?
Well, there ARE a couple of new issues that may create an uptick on the enthusiasm scale...
1) Who will make up the cast of the second national tour?
2) Who will replace Rick Faugno in Vegas?
I haven't heard anything ... anybody?
1) Is there still going to be a second national tour? Has anyone heard anything? Why is the West Coast still being shunned?
2) Well, we know it will not be Dominic S. Tigger asked him and he said no. JLY, are you busy? LOL
I am just so excited that I will be seeing the show for my birthday on December 10th in Philly. I need the adrenalin shot of "Jersey Boys" bad.
Linda, yes. And it'll be back in San Francisco before you know it.
I'm very excited for the return on Jersey Boys in SF!
I'm excited the show is coming to Auckland, but sad that the Sydney run is ending (although exactly when who knows?). Also very sad to think that Auckland could be the last time I will see it as there has been no mention of it going anywhere else in Australia after Auckland. So I will just have to try and get up to Auckland as often as posisble during the 10 weeks it is on.
I was searching for a thread to post my experience of seeing the national tour cast for the first time last night. I enjoyed re-reading this thread. Haven't posted here for a while, but that doesn't mean I don't love JB any less. I just don't have that same enthusiasm as when I first started. Nor do I have the time - I used to spend a couple of hours a day on here - where did I find the time??
Anyway, saw the national tour cast last night and they were phenomenal! Joseph Leo Bwarie was fantastic as Frankie - my fourth show, and my fourth Frankie - and three out of the four have been unbelievable. (I won't name the fourth.) I don't know how a tour cast can keep up such a high level of enthusiasm night after night - but they sure did. And the Jacksonville, FL audience loved them!
You can always start a new thread! :)
I know how you feel, since I've totally slacked off on writing about Vegas and that was two weeks ago. But I'm not the same kind of fan I was 5 years ago.
Yes, it could be said that overall the enthusiasm for the show is diminishing as many of us have seen it over and over and in many different places. Personally I am not in such a rush to see (or in my case "chase") the show any more, but if it ever comes my way again I certainly wouldn't turn it down! I take more of an interest now in some of the side projects that current and former cast members are doing like "The Midtown Men," "Under the Streetlamp," "The Doo Wop Project," benefits for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids, anything by Daniel Reichard or the many cabaret/open mic/showcases that pop up around NYC where our beloved cast members are featured. The fire is still there, it's just on the low setting right now ;)
I'm still excited about seeing this phenomenal show. Saw the opening previews at the Paris, and plan on going again real soon.
I saw this post a couple of days ago (yes, I still check out the JB Blog and especially the Forum!) and have been thinking how to respond honestly...and not start any "favorite cast" wars. I have seen this show many times, and just when I think I'm getting over the "first time thrill of it all", I see JB again and realize why I enjoy this show so much. It is a genuinely good story, filled with great, recognizable songs, performed by very talented performers. Additionally, the dialogue is witty, it moves at a fast pace & keeps you involved.
While that alone should be enough to attract a following, when JB opened on Broadway, it had something else...it had "that cast." That original OBC that cared enough to foster relationships, even if only at the stage door, that kept fans returning. And they were all over town, performing in parades, on early morning & late night TV shows, at fund-raising events/shows, ballgames...you name it, they were there. Yes, they were magic on stage. We let them know that, and they in turn made us feel special. And that's why the Midtown Men still have a loyal following performing a different type of show under a different name.
Was it their job to go that extra step after a performance? No, but it certainly became a hallmark of their tenure on Broadway and a legacy to those who followed in their footsteps. JB is not the new show on the block anymore, so when you go to the show, spend a couple of moments at the stage door and let them know you enjoyed their hard work. I did that this Christmas, and even though only half the performers came out the stage door to greet those gathered there, the ones who did were appreciative and gracious. Did I really go there just to capture that feeling of waiting for John Lloyd, Christian, Bobby & Daniel bursting through that side exit of the August Wilson?Well, maybe...and though I didn't see them, it brought a smile to my face...just as the first few notes of the opening song did.
I think the Vegas cast does quite a few appearances and has a fairly loyal fan base. I enjoyed their show last year. Gary mentioned Under the Streetlamp and the Doo Wop Project...again, these guys have a loyal fan base and are really ambassadors of the Jersey Boys legacy. Check out the current cast and let them know that you have a history with the show...they really enjoy that. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the show I saw in December. Remember the relationships you have built through the show and this blog. That alone makes me remember why this show is so special to me.
I so echo your thoughts, Lulu and Gary. In addition to seeing the show over and over and getting to know the cast and our fellow fans, the Blog really did bring us all together to post our thoughts and notify us of coming events. Further, in thinking back, I don't believe I ever saw John Lloyd, Christian, Bobby or Daniel pretending to be on their cell phones as they exited the stage door; each darted out facing forward ready to greet their fans!
As Gary inferred, today when we see The Midtown Men or Under the Streetlamp, the guys remember and acknowledge us and we fans recognize each other although we may not have seen each other recently. As an added bonus, those of us can enjoy TMM, UTSL, or the soon-to-be DWP with our relatives and friends regardless of age; I for one am too way old for the often noisy bars (although their bands may be talented), and on the other extreme, we can bring our teens and pre-teen relatives without having to worry about language.
I daresay, in my lifetime, I doubt that I'll ever see so many fans brought together by such a show and such a great Blog. In fact, the very first JBZ friend that I met in 2005 and I are going to try to recapture some of that magic with TMM tomorrow night!!
My enthusiasm is not diminishing at all, but when there is no production to talk about it gets a bit difficult. The Sydney show finished in December and Auckland is not starting until later this month. I just adore this show and after 71 performances still can't wait until the Auckland production starts, even though my favourite cast members have left.
Forgive me for not knowing, but who are "DWP?" Thanks.
Brenda, it's the Doo Wop Project. Story about it on page two of blog. Debuts 4/15.
Heading to Chicago to catch the tour in May and probably NYC in December. Then Houston 2013....(have to get a bank loan).
