Valentine's Day LA appearance?

    Either someone is mistaken or it's a misleadingly-named tribute group or... what's going on here?

    On Valentine's Day, before the candy and roses are dispensed, head over to the Beverly Hilton hotel for a free Healthy Heart Day seminar sponsored by Dr. Sheila Kar (a cardiologist and clinical chief of cardiology at Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute) and the Sheila Kar Health Foundation.

    The event, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., includes a blood pressure check with soothing background music to help mellow you out; a free continental breakfast; a Q&A panel discussion; a performance by the Jersey Boys; and a silent auction. Items include jewelry (sorry, the necklace at left isn't included), an autographed script from "The Simpsons," a gift certificate for a St. John's ensemble, and more.

    The Boys are finally making an appearance on my Coast and just my luck, I'm out of town that day. I was SO pissed...until I saw the ticket price. But since they're already here, I'm hoping they'll consider a public performance.

    this sure bites per leanna's 1st post so i called and "reserved" and then i only read the 1st page of karens post! then i just re-read it again after leanna's 2nd post. ermmmm.. hello $500 is def out of my price range UGGGGGHHHH and they are down the street from where i work... literally :(( oh jb how can you do that to me!!! :(

    Well, they might be two different events.

    Looks like Leanna's 1st post is a free event open to the public, and then what I posted was a private fundraising event.

    I have no idea if the JB cast is performing at one, or both, events.

    Did you notice..."The Boys in Concert" trademarked? I'd say there's nothing shady here, but rather an astute and creative business deal that provides a win-win for the show, the music and 'the boys.' Whether it's 'the boys' known for their handshake and catalog of music or not, something tells me that we may be seeing more of this winning combination -- let's hope so!

    I don't mean that part. I mean saying there'll be "a performance by the Jersey Boys," which implies it's a current cast, not alumni. It's almost like saying "a performance by Mamma Mia," and rounding up a bunch of former Sophies and Donnas.

    And this kind of billing doesn't do anything to clear up the misconception that those who don't know much about theatre assume they're a group that has nothing to do with the Four Seasons anyway (remember that radio interview with Erich Bergen where he was talking to a Vegas cabbie who thought "Jersey Boys" was a singing group?).

    Is there a big problem with folks assuming that they are current cast members? If people do think that, they don't follow theater very closely and if that's the case, what difference would it make to them? It seems true enough for my 'truth in advertising' standards. They have to be brief with ads; they can't go into an explanation of who's who and when their run was. And as far as the Vegas cabbie...you can't solve everyone's confusion, nor would I try.
