I do love that opeing night video and the rehearsal video. Those two links are probably reponsible for me getting totally hooked. After I first saw the show late November 2005, I found those about a month later- probably through John's blog somehow- and I watched them over and over and over again! Whether I went to the computer because I had a bad day or a good day; those videos were just what the doctor ordered. The next time I saw the show (3 times) was May 2006. The rest is history.

Jersey Boys flubs

At one performance, Donnie Kehr was playing Peter Gregus' part of the JB accountant and when Christian said, "This is November...April is 9 months away!" Donnie replied, "Well, 9 actually..." (as opposed to 6 actually). Christian corrected it by saying "How about 6?" When Donnie realized his flub, he just cracked up. It didn't really break the character or the moment. Christian just picked up with his next line and everything was fine. Only a true blue JB fan would have noticed (wink).

Gary,
Lol. That is a funny flub. I could definitely see that happening!Posted 5 years ago # -
Okay, 9 and 6. Donnie was right. April is 9 months away as long as you rotate the "9" 180 degrees. If I were in the show, that is something I might have said. Sorry, that is the mathematics side of me coming out. Don't think my line would have gotten too many laughs. Better stick with what I know best - and that is not acting! IE

So just got back from the show (SF cast) and a few things didn't go as planned.
John Michael Dias had a line flub right before the handshake. The line suggesting a lawyer write up a contract was supposed to be one of Bob lines but John said it on accidnet.
At the beginning of "Let's Hang" on I noticed one of the guitarist came in about a measure late. This ended up messing up John and Drew Gerhling who had to come in in the middle of the lyric, a really awkward palce to come in. It sounded weird and you could tell something went wrong because both Drew and John had the WTF look on their face right for a quick second when they came in. But they were thinking on the same wavelength because they happened to come in at the same point in the song, and they kept going.
When Lyndsey Cole was on as Francine, she slammed the phone a little to hard when she hung it up and it broke the prongs on the reciever. You could hear the pieces fall on the floor. She put the handset on the edge of the step closest to the phone or ontop of it, if there's one actually there. I was wondering how John was going to deal with it because he slams the phone down after he gets the call about Francine's death but it luckly the broken phone didn't affect the scene. He slammed it down on what was left of the receiver and the handset just fell onto the floor.

I was at a performance early in the Chicago cast run and Jarrod forgot to ask Tommy if he was going to call Gyp for help after going jewelry shopping Jersey style. After Jarrod leaves the stage, Jeremy Kushnier looks at the audience for half a second and ad libs that he better call Gyp DeCarlo for help. That's really the only flub I've seen after seeing about 15 performances. Well Lorraine dropped her pencil once during the interview scene but no big deal.

This is what I love about live theatre and professional actors! Music, dialogue, set, or prop mistakes and they somehow bounce off of it. Impressive.

When I saw the show yesterday, two things happened:
1. During the pizza scene [First Act] as Mary brings Frankie up for a kiss, Jennifer twirled John's tie around, and somehow a fork fell off of the table and made a nice little "PING" during their kiss. It was actually a cool effect. :)
2. During the sit down scene [Second Act] a chair fell over and Matt Scott went over to pick it up, no big deal though, since it was at a moment where the attention wasn't on Matt.

A, the same thing happened when I saw the show last week. Tommy's chair fell over when he tried to attack Frankie. Drew picked it up. What else happened? Jarrod flubbed his lines a bit during that same scene but it actually worked really well for the scene. It could have been my partial view seat but I think one of the cast members went missing for a scene and half. That was pretty much it.

The chair has gone flying in everyone of the 16 times I have seen the show, I believe. Daniel/ Bob Gaudio picks it up. If we are talking about the same thing, I'm sure it is planned.

What I thought was a flub the first time I saw it was the scene where Frankie shows Tommy the "Sherry" lyrics for the first time and the paper goes flying and Tommy saves it with the tip of his golf club. I thought, " Good recovery by that actor." Little did I know it was planned. Then I kept seeing it and seeing and realized it was part of the act!

There's a good one here. ;-)

That's a good flub Eric mentioned. Great job to Joseph and Erich for thinking on their feet during the scene.

I saw the Broadway JB yesterday. It was a very dark background setting for the stage. The summer, winter, spring, fall signs and other cartoon graphics throughout the show were not shown. You could only hear Ed Sullivan, you couldn't see him. You could not see the old clips of the girls swooning in the audience listening to the Four Seasons. You could not see the footage of the four JB during the Sherry song. There must have been something wrong with the video equipment they use for this. I guess for those seeing the show for the first time they didn't know the difference. However, if you were a repeat fan, you don't realize how much these little touches add to the play until they are no longer there. Also, a piece of silverware dropped on the floor when Jennifer grabbed JLY's tie in the pizza restaurant scene.

Wonder what happened yesterday? IE
Posted 5 years ago # -
Oh no! I agree Beverley, for anyone who has seen the show not having these extra aspects of the show is a major step down. Of course, we all know it's the music that's the star but I look forward to seeing these little things everytime I see the show. I wonder what happened as well.
Posted 5 years ago # -
Beverely, I forgot to include that part! I too noticed that there were no screens. I wonder what happened. Maybe I will ask Jennifer about this.

I saw the show on Sat. evening the 25th and only the screen on stage right wasn't working. Computer problems I believe. Top of second act, that particular screen came on with all the computer start up info on it and then was shut off. Ah the age of computers.............can't rely on them really can you! It's an actor's job to be able to stay in the moment and deal with anything that happens on stage. Afterall, what they are doing at the moment is "real life" for that character. So, if a chair falls over or a fork falls on the floor, in real life you'd pick it up and so the actors do what anyone would do in a real life situation. I was in a show once where an actor skipped so far ahead that he was at the top of the last scene in the show and we were actually only into the beginning of the second act. Of course, all of us on stage were trying to get him back on track and fortunately we were able to do so, but the audience never knew, except for those who'd seen the show before. Listening and being in the moment is key and these actors know the show so well, they're able to come out of anything. It's also a real treat when an actor doesn't make an entrance on time and you have to adlib dialogue pertaining to the show/situation until the actor shows up, I've been in that type of situation too. Makes for a very exciting & interesting perfomance. LOL!!!!!!

Yes, I had to adlib in a performance once. Apparently between the first show and second show, they changed an item on stage and didn't let us know. I was supposed to look at a gingerbread house and say "Look, Hansel, it's gingerbread"...when actually, they had put chocolate bars up on the house, so I had to change it to "Look, Hansel, it's chocolate". My finest acting moment, if I may say so myself. Of course, I was six years old and playing Gretel in the children's summer theater production of "The Bad Children". That was also my last great performance ;)

Oh yeah, and I saw a swing (his first time on) give the wrong red sparkly jackets to Chris Jones and Erich Bergen. You'd think a multi-attendee fan would notice when there's like a 6 inch height difference, but I didn't until after "Walk Like a Man," when Chris and Erich started gesturing and mouthing to each other, and then switched jackets. ;)

Deven May almost messed up the card trick the second time he did it once. Like, he was doing the little shuffly thing with the cards and they almost went flying everywhere. Luckily they didn't, and he recovered, but he pulled the card and named it and you can tell by the look on his face that he thought he really messed up. He actually didn't, though, and he had this really relieved look when he looked at the card. It was actually really cute :)

Once, Eric Gutman (understudy for Bob Gaudio) messed up the line, "Can we talk about the song please?" He said, "slong peas." He mentions it in his blog.

mrsvalli? Great member name? Can't help wonder if you are The Mrs. Valli, like in FRankie????????? Welcome. IE
Posted 5 years ago # -
Not The Mrs. Valli, unfortunately. Just a huge fan that is in love with JB.
Another mistake, which I didn't see, but heard of, was in the pizza scene, when Jackie Seiden grabed Chris Jones's tie to kiss him she accidentaly pulled off his tie.
Posted 5 years ago # -
What's funny is, I've NEVER seen Jenny Lee Ramos grab any Frankie's tie, just his lapels. And I always think of the tie clip thing with Jackie. ;)
Posted 5 years ago # -
Leanna & mrsvalli - Jen Naimo grabs Frankie's tie in the pizza scene every performance and the way she does it is priceless!!! It works everytime! She kind of grabs it, wraps it around her hand and pulls him in too her. It's great and she does it so fast it always looks unexpected.
Posted 5 years ago # -
Yeah, that's how Jackie does it too.
Posted 5 years ago # -
JBJN54, I love how Jenn does that, I agree its priceless.
Posted 5 years ago # -
Ah, Jersey Boys. Life would be sadder without them. By the way, ireneeizen, it took me a while, but I loved the way you said you would handle the 6/9 month problem, a couple weeks ago. I would have cracked up. Yeah, I'm a bit of a geek.

Here's one I just remembered...it's funny too! God Bless Heather Ferguson (she has 60 tracks to cover). She was replacing Jennifer Naimo in the Mary role while Jenn was in Detroit doing a taping. It was the scene where Frankie and Mary are at the kitchen table after Francine calls after having been away for 2 days. Mary and Frankie are fighting about him being away on tour and Frankie says, "I'm an entertainer!" Mary's retort is supposed to be, "She doesn't need an entertainer, she needs a father!" Heather switched the line and said, "She doesn't need a father, she needs an entertainer!" I swear I was the only one in the audience who picked up on that because it went so fast, but I did chuckle and think to myself, now why couldn't my mom have ever said that to my dad as he was about to whip me with the belt, "Screw the parenting skills...just give him the 'ole soft shoe instead!" hehe
