Jersey Boys closed again in SF, and with that exclusivity clause that is in the contract for Vegas, it's probably the last production that will be in CA for a very long time. And when the tour starts heading east, it'll probably be a very long time before Jesery Boys plays on the West Coast again. Let's hope there is a time limit to that clause, and that it's short. But I'm glad I was able to catch this run a few times. This will probably be the only time the majority of the cast will be performing the full show. And the only time to see this combination of the principals, since 3 of them are going to different companies. But it was a great audience, and the cast ended the run with a great performance.

do you know if rick is staying on for vegas as the lead frankie?

Sounds like it.

Mama Lucy and I talked to him last night and he confirmed he is the lead for Vegas. What a terrific show last night. So bittersweet to see their last performance at The Curran. I was almost crying with Joyce on the stairs during "My Eyes Adored You" and Rick during "Fallen Angel". Joseph Bwarie is going up to Seattle to step in for Chris Kale Jones while he's on vacation. Can't wait for Vegas!! When's that darn opening night already??

So is Joseph Bwarie joining the tour for good or just for Seattle?

He could be there until they find a new alternate. There's time until Vegas. ;)

Vegas in on the West coast too or close to it vs back East. I just have to save my money up for Vegas. It'll be a long drive there so I'll have plenty of time to be listening to my Four Seasons cds on the way there and home. :)

Vegas, part of the west yes, part of the west coast, no. I'm one of those people who think that if the state isn't touching the Pacific ocean, it's not the west coast.
Man it's only been a few days and I'm going throught withdrawl.

What's weird is Variety still gives an end date for Jan. 6. I wonder if it has to do with employment rather than actual bookings, since they're all (or mostly) still there until Jan. 6. And why is the Chicago cast the 3NT? That seems out of sequence.
It's almost been a week now. So sad!

Well maybe the cast and creative team are in SF trying to get a rough idea of what to cut and seeing if it works onstage. And they didn't load out the Curran on 12/30, well not on closing night atleast.

Leanna, I think that means the 6th week of the run... It couldn't mean the week ending Jan. 6th because that would have to include Sunday's performances for all the other shows. I'm not sure why they would call Chicago the third National Tour, unless it refers to something else or they include the NY cast as the first company, and the Sherry tour as the second, in which case Chicago would be the third.
I know what you mean...we're all going through withdrawl...I have avoided playing my JB CD all week because I didn't want to have to take happy pill! But we can start the countdown to Vegas--12 weeks to previews...a few more til opening night. Hang in there!

I think the start of their work week starts on a Monday, even though they're dark, and ends on a Sunday. So including the dates 12/30-1/6 would be an extra week booked, although they aren't performing any shows. Like I said they could be just using the theater this week to reherse. Anyone feel like getting some Starbucks??

Thai Noodles sounds good...

Thai Noodles sounds good, or maybe a sandwich. As long as I get a caffine fix.
Posted 5 years ago # -
Haha.
I've sure been craving Thai Noodles for a while, actually.

UPGRADES ARE AVAILABLE!

Oh the scalper guy, as annoying as he was, the rush line didn't feel like rush unless he was outside trying to convince people to step out and buy his tickets. Although he knew he'd never get any of the regulars to buy from him.
Posted 5 years ago # -
Ha ha, he was having a difficult time selling $200 seats to the final matinee. People wanted 2 tickets for $200. People were stopping and asking him what the rush and cancellation lines were. I was cracking up. Show tickets!!!
Posted 5 years ago # -
In all honestly, if you showed up to the theater late, after the box office opened, the only way you could have gotten tickets to the show was if you bought the tickets from him. Especially considering how long the cancelation line was for the matinee. But I talked to him while he was selling the tickets he had for the evening performance, he did end up selling all his matinee tickets.

Looks like almost everything is packed up. The big horizontal signs outside the theatre have the generic SHN logo on them now. Awwwww, sad.

I think even the rehearsals are done. Rick and Joyce said they were leaving on a well-deserved vacation tomorrow. Hope they have a great time!

It's going to be awkward and a bit depressing walking past the Curran and not seeing any sign of Jersey Boys up there.
But it's going to be extra weird come April when Whistle Down The Wind starts it's run at the Curran.

Kind of like when Phantom closed. That was much much longer, but this was much more special. To me, anyway. ;)

There were alot of enjoyable moments that happned at the Curran while Jersey Boys was running. Hopefully one day it comes back to SF.

So many wonderful memories of the three casts, the fans, the ushers, the rush lines, the people-watching, the performances. I'll always remember this theater and the fun times. Shucks!!

Did anybody else feel that the theater venue add something else to the show? I've seen it at the Curran, Ahmanson, SD Civic Center, and OCPAC. I felt Curran has the most intimate ambience, like I got pretty close to and got to know the characters a little bit more. OCPAC and SD were so cavernous, they gave off more of a rock concert ambience, and Ahmanson added a more modern metropolitan athmosphere to the proceedings. or was it just me?
Posted 5 years ago # -
Absolutely! We saw it at the Sacramento Civic Theater and were in row Q or R. In the same rows at the Curran, you'd feel like you were pretty close to the action. At the Sac Theater, it felt cavernous and the acoustics weren't nearly as good. And if you're in the first couple of rows at the Curran, you really feel like you're onstage with them. It's great. (Sigh.)

Definitely. Nearly every show I've seen at the Sacramento Community Center Theatre I've also seen elsewhere, and I'm really not a fan of the theatre in Sacto. It's huge and 70s and like MamaLucy said, cavernous.

I agree re: the Sac. Theatre. How is the August Wilson vs. the Curran?
Posted 5 years ago # -
They're similiar actually. That's something I noticed when I saw the show on B'way. Both the August Wilson and the Curran are intimate and beautifully designed. I've become very favorable toward the LaSalle Bank as well. Goodness though, all the Sherry theatres are huge!
