I think the medley part was added to make the song a little longer, more in line with circa 1980 singles.

My other Spinners favorites include “It’s A Shame” and “How Could I Let You Get Away”.

If you like the Spinners cover of WMWBTY, I also recommend the Linzer/Randell/Calello production and arrangement of “Let’s Hang On” by The Bandwagon, if you can find it.
