As I posted before, our high school band played “Goin’ Out Of My Head/Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” way back then. I think it was in 1969. It was a kick for me to see Bob Gaudio’s and Bob Crewe’s name at the top of the sheet music score. The medley had wide adult contemporary acceptance by then. I still don’t understand why CTMEOY didn’t have more adult contemporary airplay of the original. I guess there’s a resistance to accept a standard from a singer who originally did Pop/Rock and Roll.

All the others probably had it a little easier to get their songs out to the public, probably because they were “known”. Gaudio had it much tougher. As he says “We were only as good as our last record”.

I personally think that his best stuff was written when he was a performer. It’s certainly debatable.

Without Jersey Boys only few connected the dots
to all his successes. Now it’s universally known!

To hear all these high schools and colleges doing their repitoir must be so satisfying to them.

I know this site celebrates the play mostly, but probably, not unlike you it’s nice to see the validation of the founders.

All have a significant to musical entertainment over the years.

But I and many others here who comment have always been dismayed when people in the industry would name everyone except The Four Seasons as early influences.

Some of us have speculated that perhaps Mr. Gaudio has contributed so much because he didn’t have the added distraction of constant media attention and the limelight.

In any event, all of us are happy that appropriate recognition has finally come to Mr. Gaudio.

At the very least on par with Bacharach/David. Goffin/King, Lennon/ McCartney. Jagger/Richards.
Holland/Dozier/Holland,John/Taupin and still going strong.

Bands all over the world continue to cover “Beggin’” as we speak.

The backbone of the magnificent “Jersey Boys”.

One could only imagine if he had more time to write during the mid sixties what other gems may have surfaced.

Bob, you’re time has arrived…and we salute you!
