My time of the 6o's was probably the growing up early years listening to Peggy. The song of the summer for me was trying to sing "My boyfriend Back " hummmm and there gonna be trouble. more hummingggg. My dad was a musician ,police officer, and played the vibes with 6 mallets. I would drum, he would sing along with me.
Back then, most dads would send there daughter to there room! But I grew up with a strick dad, but a real loving heart of a dad to sing along with Peggy on the radio. This is it he would say. Love what you do Joni. Its magic!
Thanks Peg,
Joni
Also, I will mention on June 6th. in DC Komen Race that your presence to recite "Wildflowers" written by the FAB! Tom Austin from the Royal Teens. which became the inspirational poem from my symbolic First Bloom Painting to presented to cancer survivor of the year. with the Talented Prodigy Bob Gaudio and Tom Austin co-wrote with "Who Wear Short Shorts" my music that I learned to shave my legs!!!! That you will be missed Peggy. Feel better soon! We love your sound. I applaud you and Tom Austin for the opportunity to share your talents with the world. J

We also begrudgingly acknowledge that the Beach Boys were part of that '62-'63 parade of new artists.

I even like the Beach Boys' 1963 album cut "Surfer's Rule", which ends with the lyric "Four Seasons, you better believe it", along with imitating the vocals from "Walk Like A Man". The B side of "Dawn (Go Away)", "No Surfing Today", was a much darker and more subtle return favor/dig. As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

And the Cascades' "Rhythm Of The Rain" is a classic that immediately caught my attention back then, Howard. The John Gummoe penned song was #10 on the most performed songs of the 20th Century (CTMEOY was #5).

Just read on the Internet where the Angels cut "My Boyfriend's Back" as a demo to try to sell the song to the Shirelles. But the demo turned out to be so good that the powers that be decided to release it as a single! While the Angels already had a pretty big hit with 'Til, they weren't nearly as well-known as the Shirelles.

What amazes me still is how many new artists had big hits in '62-'63..not only the Seasons in '62 and Angels in '63, but Little Peggy March, Skeeter Davis, Rolf Harris, Soeur Sorreire (sp?), Kyu Sakamoto (sp.), Lou Christie, Marcie Blaine, Lesley Gore, the Cascades, Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs, Paul & Paula, Jimmy Soul, and the list goes on and on.
