Another Rave Review in Rhode Island for Jersey Boys!

May 15th, 2010

Jersey Boys LogoThe rave reviews keep popping up online for the national tour production of JERSEY BOYS. Providence Journal Arts Writer Channing Gray notes that JB lives up to the hype and deserves the glowing reviews. It’s got an intriguing story to tell with lots of golden oldies tossed in for good measure, while the singing, especially the high falsetto licks from Joseph Leo Bwarie, is fabulous.

Bwarie, who’s a tiny guy, turned out to be something of a sensation, and not just because of his stratospheric top register. He’s got a butter-smooth tenor that was just as fine singing sultry tunes such as “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.” But the whole quartet was terrific, singing with lots of edge and sounding just like the Seasons. In a way the show is set up like a concert, with the audience members responding to the acts as though they are at a rock club. Bwarie more than once took a heartfelt bow after a song.

In all, there are just shy of three-dozen songs in the show, which is quite a workout for Bwarie and the band. But on opening night the guys were up to the task, singing as though the music were written yesterday.
