Beggin’ Re-edit Video on Youtube!

July 8th, 2007

According to The FADER Magazine, “for the past year or so, Parisian producer Pilooski’s re-edits have been spreading sunlight through the dank crevices of clubland.” Pilooski’s latest re-edit is the Four Seasons’ 1967 hit “Beggin’” that was just picked up by UK label 679. Check out this amazing video created by Cyriak!

  1. The video is amazing, quite creative. At first, I thought JLY was singing.
The JB version of Beggin’ certainly show how the advances in sound technology has enriched the original version. So the British are getting prepared, I see. IE

  2. Just an historical note: Beggin’ as sung by the Four Seasons was released in 1967 and the Four Seasons at that time was comprised of Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Joe Long. This video includes Nick Massi, who left the group in 1965, not Joe Long. This video obviously comes from the Nick Massi Four Seasons and their first appearance on “On Broadway Tonight” which appearance is included in “Jersey Beat…”

  3. Other Interesting Facts about “Beggin’”

    1. Was featured on the New Year’s Eve show from New York City in the coutdown to 2007 by the Jersey Boys.

    2. Reached #16 on the Hot 100.

    3. Was written by Bob Gaudio and Peggy Farina, aka Peggy Santiglia of the 1960s singing group the Angels (My Boyfriend’s Back). Peggy also sang vocals on Lou Christie’s “Rhapsody In The Rain”, produced by Four Seasons’ arranger and sometime member Charles Calello.

  4. I can’t get enough of this video!!! Although I agree with David Case’s comment above that Nick Massi was no longer a member of the Seasons and did not perform on this tune, it’s still a fun video to view. I understand it’s getting spins in the dance clubs of England. Wouldn’t it be exciting if it actually charted over there and possibly carried over and hit the Hot 100 once again here in the States.

I’m sure if the song does chart, the JBB will be on top of this breaking story. Let’s wait and see.

  5. Len, if Beggin’ charts, it will also make Frankie Valli the only artist to chart on the Hot 100 in each of the six decades it’s been in existence.

  7. A reliable source from England tells us that the latest sales data till Thursday evening now indicates that “Beggin’” has moved up into the top 30 (i.e. somewhere between 21 and 30). We hope to have more British chart news coming soon.

  8. As I recall, the remix of December, 1963 (Oh, What A Night) began by getting play in clubs also, as much as a couple years before it hit the Hot 100 again in 1994. I remember being stunned when I first heard the new version on the radio around 1992. I was stunned again when Frankie Valli announced in late Summer, 1994, in an interview with the late J.P. McCarthy on WJR Detroit, that December, 1963 had reentered the Hot 100.

I haven’t followed the British charts in years, but remakes and reissues used to appear quite freqeuntly on them.

  9. Thanks for the update concerning the chart position of “Beggin’” on the British music charts. Let’s hope the newfound popularity of this sensational song can cross the Atlantic and land it on the charts for a second spin on it’s home turf. And as Howard noted earlier, that would give Frankie Valli at least one charted hit in each of the decades from the ’50′s through the ’00′s! And let’s not even speculate the chart records it might achieve if it can reach the summit and hit number one!!

  10. Here’s proof positive of the six decades, Len:

1956 You’re the Apple of My Eye (#62)
    1960’s Numerous hits
    1970’s Numerous hits
1980 Spend the Night in Love (#91)
Where Did We Go Wrong (#90)
    1994 December, 1963 remix (#14)
    2007 Beggin’ (???)

That would be an unbelievable accomplishment!
