JBB Fantastic Fan Interview With Sarah!

July 14th, 2007

Jersey Boys fans are, shall we say ubiquitous?!!? We’re excited to present the 22nd JBB Fantastic Fan Interview with Sarah from Delaware! Sarah chats about how much she loved seeing JB for the first time and how she’s planning a return visit; all the WOW! moments in Jersey Boys; and what it was like to meet the cast at the stage door!

JBB: Tell us about yourself.

Sarah: My name is Sarah, I’m 18 years old and from Wilmington, Delaware. I spent a lot of my childhood acting in community theatre productions but now I am heading into my sophmore year of college as a film major. The first Broadway production I ever saw was the touring cast of Beauty and the Beast. I saw it at a very young age and I knew right then that I needed to become involved with theatre and other forms of entertainment.

JBB: When did you first hear about Jersey Boys, and how did you become interested in the show?

Sarah: My mom’s work runs a bus trip to New York City several times a year to see different Broadway productions. I always try to go once a year with a few family members and we chose Jersey Boys because it seemed like the most interesting show.

JBB: What was your reaction to the show upon seeing it for the first time?

Sarah: I absolutely loved Jersey Boys after I saw it. I have never seen a show with so much interaction and reaction with and from the audience. Based on the audience’s applause, I would have said that the original Four Seasons were playing on the stage. When the “Sherry/Big Girls Don’t Cry/Walk Like a Man” medley was performed, people were on their feet cheering and singing along. I have never seen that happen at a show before and it was amazing. I can’t imagine how the performers felt.

JBB: How many times have you seen JB?

Sarah: I have only seen Jersey Boys once but I am trying to see it again and this time I want to bring my mom along. The energy given off by the cast is something that attracts me to the show and their performances make me want to see the show again and again.

JBB: Who went with you to see Jersey Boys, and what was their reaction to the show?

Sarah: I brought three of my aunts and my cousin along for Jersey Boys, but like I said above, next time I’m going to bring my mom! My aunts and my cousin share my love for the show and believe it is one of the best Broadway shows they have ever seen.

JBB: Why do you think people have such a strong connection to Jersey Boys?

Sarah: I think people feel so connected to the show because it’s a real story about real people. Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Nick Massi, and Tommy DeVito were all real people who worked hard to receive the success they so rightfully deserved. Not everyone can be handed their dreams on a silver platter and that certainly was not the case for these four men-they worked for their success. I think people feel they can relate to the group because the guys worked so hard and although they are tough Jersey boys, they are portrayed by the actors as loveable people that you just want to root for.

JBB: Have you met any of the JB cast members?

Sarah: I was able to meet J. Robert Spencer, Christian Hoff, Daniel Reichard, and Michael Longoria after the show. They were all incredibly nice, some of the nicest people I think I have ever met in my life. They each took the time to chat with everyone who was waiting and I’m sure it was difficult signing so many autographs after such an energetic performance, not to mention knowing that they still had one more show to go (It was a Saturday matinee). Michael was especially sweet, making sure that everyone who wanted an autograph got one- and there were a lot of people, considering he played Frankie Valli and everyone wants to meet the lead. :)

JBB: What’s your favorite Jersey Boys scene & why?

Sarah: I love the scene when Frankie Valli sings “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” and the horn section comes walking out across the bridge. I think it’s such a pivotal scene because to me, that’s the symbol that they have finally made it. It’s especially meaningful given the conversation between Frankie and Bob when they discuss having a horn section in the band.

JBB: How about your favorite musical number in Jersey Boys & why?

Sarah: I enjoyed the medleys because they are composed of some of their most popular songs and it’s that point in the musical when the audience really goes crazy and jumps to their feet.

JBB: Do you have a favorite line from the show?

Sarah: It’s hard to pick a favorite line because it’s such a brilliantly written piece of work. I did enjoy the monologues at the end, though.

JBB: Prior to seeing Jersey Boys, were you familiar with the Four Seasons’ music? If so, do you have a favorite 4 Seasons’ song?

Sarah: Before the show I knew I was familiar with a lot of their better known and more popular songs, such as “Sherry,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” but as I listened to the songs in the show I realized I actually knew 95% of the songs due to hearing them in various movies and on different radio stations. As far as a favorites 4 Seasons song, I don’t know if I can pinpoint one song.

JBB: Anything else you’d like to share about Jersey Boys?

Sarah: After seeing the show, I think the guys truly deserve all of the success that they have been receiving since the opening of the show. It’s such a great rags to riches story and one that I am glad is finally being told and so well received.

Thank you to Sarah for taking the time to share why Jersey Boys is so special to her! Can’t wait to see what she says when she takes her mom to see the show! 1. I also enjoy the scene where the horn section comes out in CTMEOY. I was in shock when I saw Jersey Boys the first time, and the audience clapped loudly to celebrate with Frankie and Bob.
