Jersey Boys Is Excellent in East Lansing!

October 3rd, 2011

Another rave review for the JB national tour production in East Lansing. Check out a sneak peek from MLive.com’s Emily Caswell:

The musical plays out a lot like a live version of VH1’s “Behind the Music.” While some audience members might come in prepared only to have fun — which “Jersey Boys” certainly delivers on — there is the surprising aspect of an interesting history lesson. Included in that history lesson are appearances by many of good ole Jersey folks who played a role in the Four Season’s success — including the now-famous actor Joe Pesci, who the audience learns introduced Bob Gaudio to Tommy DeVito back in the day, solidifying the original Four Seasons group.

Just like with “Behind the Music,” however, Act Two takes a look at the price of fame and fortune the members of the Four Seasons had to pay. Luckily, the bad times don’t last forever and the show ends on a high note as the group evolves into new members and Frankie Valli takes the lead in the band. It has to be said that Bwarie’s performance of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” alone is worth seeing the show.

While Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons may have spoken to a generation, don’t be fooled into thinking you have to be of that generation to enjoy “Jersey Boys.” It’s a show for anyone who loves a good story about making dreams come true and more importantly, a good tune.

  1. Wharton Center is a great venue for Jersey Boys. The biggest traffic jam you will encounter is in the parking ramp. It’s a fairly short, hassle free drive from most of Lower Michigan. It’s a good chance for people in Michigan, and even Northern Ohio and Indiana, to see the show.
