  1. This was an absolutely wonderful event of “Original Casts” of many, many well-known plays. JLY and his backup singers of course were the highlight and received one of the longest ovations of the evening, and we all were able to mingle with them at the afterparty, where JLY told us he also dabbles in some fine art!! (“Rembrandt Lloyd Young”??)

We were also treated to Donna McKechnie (the original Cassie in “A Chorus Line”), 90-year old Betty Garrett (Archie Bunker’s neighbor) reprising her 1946 effort in “Call Me Mister”, 95-year old Patricia Morrison from the original “Kiss Me Kate”, Melissa Manchester of “Don’t Cry Out Loud” fame, and the remarkable Sally Struthers (yes, Gloria) from “Always, Patsy”, the great tribute to Patsy Cline. But next to JLY, I so enjoyed 64-year-old Tyne Daly (yes, Mary Beth Lacey) and Jonathan Hadary reliving their days 20 years ago as the Tony-winning and Tony-nominated duo from “Gypsy”. With deference to Ethel, Angela, Patti, and Bernadette, I still think Tyne is the best Mamma Rose!

The afterparty was great with no blaring music so we could really talk to the performers and each other, and with plenty of food. Linda SooHoo assured me that although it all looked fattening, it really wasn’t…and who am I to question Linda!

It was a wonderful evening, and JLY, as usual, was in great form, as you can see.

  4. Such memories. Just keep hitting ‘replay.’ Longest ovations of the evening…that’s easy to believe.

What’s this about JLY dabbling in fine art? Howard, don’t leave us hanging like that. Get in there and REPORT!

  6. G_R_E_A_T!!!! This tape is a much fun as the first time I saw Jersey Boys on Good Morning America. I think John Lloyd Young was born with a Microphone, who needs to dance when you can sing like that!
