Joseph Leo Bwarie’s ‘Nothin’ But Love’ for Great Music!

Aaron Jentzen has posted a fun interview with Joseph Leo Bwarie, who chats about his fantastic debut album, “Nothin’ But Love.” Here’s a sneak peak of the interview:
Bwarie has just released his debut album, “Nothin’ But Love.†It’s a standards album in which a big band-style 40-piece orchestra supports his smooth, pliant tenor. Although Bwarie’s only 33, he says he has been obsessed with swing and standards since childhood.“Oddly enough, it’s really who I am,†he says via phone from Milwaukee, where “Jersey Boys†is opening.
Growing up in California, where he began singing and acting professionally at age 9, Bwarie recalls browsing for Ella Fitzgerald and other oldies at Costco while his parents shopped.
“That was the music that really made me feel great,†he says.
Neo-crooners such as Michael Bublé have found success with similar material, yet it seems odd to release such a retro album at a time when “pop†means the likes of Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne.
“People who understand this genre of music already will enjoy it,†Bwarie says — older folks, in other words. “But I really wasn’t sure what the demographic would reach.â€
At a recent album signing at a Barnes & Noble bookstore in Cleveland, he was surprised to see that most of the people in the crowd were teenagers.
“I was really excited that younger ears were into it,†Bwarie says.
