Ring of Fire Closes; Another Best Musical Prediction for Jersey Boys

April 26th, 2006

Bloomberg.com’s Philip Boroff reports that producers of Ring of Fire: The Johnny Cash Musical Show said today that the $6 million revue will close on Sunday after 57 performances. The show hasn’t had a profitable week since the first preview at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on February 8.

Boroff states that Ring of Fire also illustrates the risks of mounting a Broadway musical without an inviting story. Jersey Boys, about hardscrabble youths who become the Four Seasons, has set attendance records at the August Wilson Theatre and is a favorite to win the Tony Award for best musical.
