Star-studded Jersey Boys Opening Night in Melbourne!

July 4th, 2009

Jersey Boys Logo Luke Dennehy of the Herald Sun notes that after much talk and anticipation, the award-winning musical Jersey Boys has finally arrived in Melbourne!

The hype surrounding last night’s star-studded opening is part of a wider resurgence of the musical genre, which is enjoying patronage not seen since the days of the 1980s mega-musicals.

The guest list included one of the original members of The Four Seasons – the pop group that is featured in the musical – and composer of many of the band’s hits, Bob Gaudio. Gaudio has been in Melbourne all week and has praised the Australian version of the show, which has been one of the biggest hits on Broadway for years.

Premier John Brumby, Derryn Hinch, Kylie Gillies, Dermott Brereton, Chris Lilley, Jason Coleman and Ricki-Lee Coulter were among the VIPs on the guest list.

The after-show party was held at the Sofitel Hotel, which was transformed into a ’50s and ’60s party space. The menu included classic dishes from the era, including devils on horseback, scotch eggs and prawn cocktails. Beef stroganoff and mini fruit pavlovas were also served.

Dennehy’s story also has a video of opening night festivities, including interviews with Bob Gaudio, in addition to JB Melbourne cast members Bobby Fox (Frankie Valli) and Stephen Mahy (Bob Gaudio)!
