Christian Hoff Audiobook: Tell Me How You Love the Picture

By Catherine Sanneman and Howard Tucker, JBB Special Correspondents

We are all thrilled to learn that Ed Feldman and Tom Barton’s “Tell Me How You Love the Picture,” the audiobook narrated by our own Christian Hoff with his world-record 241 voices, has just been nominated for 2007 Audiobook of the Year by ForeWord Magazine, one of the most important publications in the publishing industry. The audiobook was produced by Barton and Jimmy Merrill.

The audiobook tells us what a producer does (basically “fixes” problems and is general manager of a film), as Ed (Christian) takes us through his own wonderful career.

Christian’s voices act out the antics on the set of “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?” and the casting challenge of Barbara Streisand in “Funny Girl.” He also does a magnificent John Huston, John Wayne, Jim Carrey, as well as Eddie Murphy, Cary Grant, and Glenn Close on many of their hit films.

Possibly the best story is Ed’s experience of producing Harrison Ford’s and Kelly McGillis’s “Witness,” from having no major studio interest to eight Academy Award nominations, including one for Ed himself.

How does Christian turn his “Joisey” Tommy DeVito into Streisand, Crawford, Davis, Carrey, Huston, Murphy, et al? “Brilliant” is an understatement. It’s got to be heard to be believed. The nomination is well-deserved.

We’re all rootin’ for you Christian. Better make some room on your dressing room shelf for another accolade!

  3. Christian did such a great job on this. It is so much fun to listen to. How awesome it would be for him to add “narrator of book of the year” to his “world record holder” accomplishments from this gig.

  5. I heard just a snippet of this a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Can’t wait to hear the whole book now! I hope Christian has room next to his Tony for yet another award! I had the good fortune to speak to him after a matinee that same weekend…I am always amazed how much time he takes after such a rigorous onstage performance to speak to those waiting outside. I’d like to nominate him for the Broadway Stage Door Award . . . with the other JB cast members as fellow nominees. It would be a close race, but I think Christian would win, LOL!
