The Hard Working Jersey Boys National Tour Actresses!

September 28th, 2011

Dawn Parker has a fun feature interview two of the three actresses behind the men of JERSEY BOYS: Denise Payne & Kara Tremel. Check out a preview below:

Just three actresses slip in and out of costumes for dozens of roles. Each has a main part along with many smaller roles — some that only last a few minutes.

Kara Tremel stars as Mary Delgado, Frankie Valli’s first wife.

A native of Moose Jaw, Sask., Tremel moved to Toronto at age 18 to attend college and study musical theater. Tremel’s career includes an eight-year stint in Europe, during which she toured in musicals all over the continent.

“This is the best show I’ve ever been in,” she said.

According to the story, Delgado was the one who suggested Valli adopt that spelling of his stage name, rather than the Vally he preferred. “She’s a tough broad. She’s a real Jersey girl who likes her cigarettes and her drinks,” Tremel said of Delgado.

Denise Payne’s main role is Valli’s daughter Francine. Being part of the “Jersey Boys” cast is “pure fun,” she said — even when there is sometimes barely a minute to switch characters. “Each little role is individually very small, but they’re all so different. It’s three hours of getting to play different characters,” Payne said.

“It’s challenging, but it’s fun. It’s not like any show that’s ever been written. Theater-wise, I’m lucky to get three hours of play every night.”
