Toronto Jersey Boys Continues to Sizzle!

January 21st, 2009

From Globe and Mail.com: Two seasons on, JERSEY BOYS is still packing them in at the Toronto Centre for the Arts. The musical’s national touring company departed for Pittsburgh last month and a mostly Canadian cast has now settled in – an occasion to revisit this fun, energizing show.

Des McAnuff’s well-greased production continues to sizzle; Steve Canyon Kennedy’s sound design is particularly impressive on a second listen. Part of the Four Seasons’ appeal came from the work of producer Bob Crewe (a very amusing Shawn Wright), whose stroke of genius was to double Frankie’s piercing vocals in the mix. Kennedy has reproduced that sound live onstage by having cast members shore up Valli’s vocal part backstage.
