According to Bob Gaudio, Jersey Boys Is ‘A Beautifully Constructed Theater Piece’

July 12th, 2012

The JERSEY BOYS first national tour company comes to Portland July 18 through August 12. Holly Johnson recently spoke with original Four Seasons member Bob Gaudio, who stated that he likes to hang out at the back of the theater, unrecognized, and watch the show. Whether it’s a touring show or a Broadway production, Gaudio, the principal songwriter — a musician, composer, producer and, with Frankie Valli, one of the founding members of the Four Seasons — has frequently stood in the shadows and watched the audience taking in the show.

“It’s a wonderful experience, hearing the comments,” Gaudio said during a phone interview, describing viewers leaving the theater singing his tunes.

Having watched it from the shadows in many a performance hall, Gaudio says “Jersey Boys” still holds up. He calls the show “a beautifully constructed theater piece.”

  1. Used to live in Cresskill, NJ in the late 60’s. Rumor was that you lived on knickerbocker road near the dumont monument.

    Any truth to that?

  2. I grew up in New Jersey near Knickerbocker Road, Cresskill, NJ. I remember (back in late 50′s/early 60′s) how my mother would point out that one of the Four Seasons lived in a particular home on Knickerbocker Road, as we drove by.

I think it was Frankie Valli. Is that true?

  3. I remember the day one of the 4 seasons, don’t know which moved into the house on knickerbocker road. my sister and friends went to watch the moving van unload. There was quite a crowd. Had to be around 1963 or 1964
