Another Rave Review for Runaway Hit Jersey Boys

March 11th, 2006

New Orleans Times-Picayune theatre reviewer David Cuthbert observed that the party in the August Wilson Theatre at Jersey Boys started even before the show began, with the audience clapping in unison with the music right from the start. He was especially impressed with the sensational performance by John Lloyd Young, who brings Frankie Valli to remarkable life, every falsetto note of “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Walk Like a Man” firmly in place, and duplicating the mellower Valli sound on hits such as “My Eyes Adored You” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You.” Cuthbert also found the book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice “tough, funny, and touching, upfront about the Seasons’ skirmishes with the law, the Mob and personal tragedies, in a sketchy, seamless narrative.”
