Critic Finds Jersey Boys ‘Enjoyable’

February 26th, 2006

Critic Chris Curcio of Azcentral.com states that there’s nothing like seeing a musical on Broadway. Last month, he saw eight Broadway musicals and he provides a rundown of the hits and misses, currently playing the Great White Way.

Among the shows Curcio listed as “fabulous” include The Light in the Piazza and Sweeney Todd. Under the category of “enjoyable” the critic listed The Color Purple, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and Jersey Boys. Curcio says the following:

Jersey Boys is another in the endless series of musicals based on recent pop music. Here, it’s Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, but beyond the familiar music, there’s a vibrant and winning biographical sketch of these guys in a fascinating and dramatic story, something that distinguishes Jersey Boys from the recent similar shows that have bombed. The cast performs the familiar songs with winsome charm and affection for the original namesakes, and the staging moves along breezily.

Enjoyable? Definitely an understatement in this blogger’s opinion….
