Eric Gutman’s Debut Performance As Tommy DeVito!

April 20th, 2007

This update is a little late, but if you haven’t been to Eric Gutman’s Tour This! blog lately, check out his post about his debut performance as Tommy DeVito on Saturday evening, April 14th.

As I’ve said before, no one can tell the story quite like Eric. Here’s a preview of the highlights from Eric’s big night:

The first scene with Frankie, I offer him the keys to the Bellevedere. it would have made a lot more sense if I actually would have pulled out the keys, however, they were still on the prop shelf because I forgot to grab them before the show. so when I tell Frankie his cut would be “hundred-fifty, maybe two,” I held out my hand so Frankie might grab it and shake it as if it’s a “deal.” Instead, Chris Jones simply looked at me and said “I’m in”, and ran off stage.

Without a doubt, riding the mic lift up as we sing “Rag Doll” was absolutely incredible. Michael Ingersoll (our Nick Massi) told me right before we rode up to slowly pan my head up as the lift goes, because since we are back-lit, we can see the entire audience and their reaction. he was right, it was something I will never forget.

  1. I was there that night. He was great as Tommy, couldn’t even tell it was his first time on. If you see the tour and he’s on for Deven, you won’t be dissapointed.

  2. Eric is on for Erich Bergen right now! (Well, it’s 8:00, so in about 40 minutes.)

  3. I have a friend who works at the Curran and she mentioned that it was someone’s first time on as Bob. It seems like they’re trying to have all the understudies get some stage time infront of the audiences before they leave SF.

  4. You are right…no one tells a story quite like Eric. You have to check out his rearrangement of the dialogue between he and Frankie after the car shooting. If you need a side splitting laugh, it’s just what the doctor ordered.

  5. Look on Eric’s blog. He says he promises to post more today or tomorrow but he went on as Bob Gaudio yesterday! Can’t wait to hear how that was.
