On November 17, 1942, Bob Gaudio, “the kid who plays like a madman–and he writes songs”–was born! We wish musical genius, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, Songwriters Hall of Fame member, and Grammy Award winner Bob Gaudio a very Happy 66th Birthday today!!

Meeting and talking with Bob Gaudio has definitely been one of the biggest honors and most exciting thrills for us since creating Jersey Boys Blog!! First, at last year’s BC/EFA’s Jersey Boys fan event, earlier this year at JB Vegas, and at intermission during our most recent trip to New York! Talk about some WOW! moments for a big Four Seasons fan!!

Happy Birthday and thank you to Bob Gaudio for creating the greatest music for five incredible decades–from “Short Shorts” to “Jersey Babys”!!

  2. You’ve put it very well, Susie; and such great photos as well!

You can’t play the whole thing down about Gaudio. This is the one… this is the guy! Some kid from outta nowhere who sings, plays, and writes songs! We’ve all hit the trifecta… beginning a mere 66 years ago. What can I say—he’s got a feel for this (success) stuff. (A brilliant script, by dual birthday boy Rick Elice, is just too good not to use at every turn :) )

Thank you for always working to bring out your creative instincts and talents, Mr. Gaudio. Happy Birthday!

  3. Thank you Mr Gaudio for so many memories from the past and for opening your life so that we can re-visit the wonderful sounds of the “Four Seasons” with “Jersey Boys” Happy, happy Birthday!

  4. Happy Birthday Mr. Gaudio. I have enjoyed your musical creations since discovering the sound of Frankie Valli and The 4 Seasons some 35+ years ago. And being such a big fan for so many years, I find it absolutely astounding that I can still delight in hearing your music performed in a smash-hit Broadway show (five times and counting) and in concert by the one and only Mr. Valli, still belting out many of your great tunes from the soundtrack of our lives. (most recently at Western Connecticut State College, in Danbury, CT, with my wife, mom, brother and his wife, and his two children, ages 9 and 5). Wishing you a happy and healthy year ahead, with many more still to come.

  7. Bob, everyone above stole all the great comments, so I’ll have to echo Dave B. above, “none of this would have happened without you.”

With both Rick Elice and yourself celebrating today, we ought to dub November 17 as Jersey Boys Genius Day. Thanks for all you’ve given us.

  8. Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you…hey, did you write this song? It seems like you’ve written every other number one song! And for that, Mr. Gaudio, we Four Seasons and Jersey Boys fans thank you very much! I met you three years ago on this very day, and every time I happen to see you at JB related events, you are so kind and gracious. I hope your special day this year and every year is filled with family, friends and music!

  12. Happy Birthday, Mr. Gaudio!

As a former Latin student, I have long been aware that the name “Gaudio” literally means “I Rejoice”. And with the long overdue recognition of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, plus all the awards and praise Jersey Boys has received, you certainly have a lot to rejoice about!

And with all the entertainment you have given us over the years, we all have a lot to rejoice about!
