J. Robert Spencer Sponsors Mentoring Program for Aspiring Actor

June 26th, 2006

BroadwayWorld.com announced that J. Robert Spencer, currently starring as Nick Massi in this year’s Tony winner for Best Musical, Jersey Boys, is sponsoring a mentoring program for an aspiring male actor from the Red Bank Regional High School in Little Falls, New Jersey.

The contestants submitted letters in response to the question “Why I Want to be a Broadway Actor.” The winner, Dennis Chambers of Red Bank, was announced on Friday, May 19, 2006 on Mix 102.7- WNEW FM’s “Morning Mix Show.”

When asked about the mentoring program, Spencer stated,

It is my way of giving back to the acting community and being the ‘big brother’ to a young actor trying to find his way to Broadway. I am proud to be a ‘Jersey Boy’ and to share my success with a native Jersey Boy.”

The winner will enjoy lunch at the Friars Club, a voice lesson with a Broadway conductor, acting and scene work with Dominic Chianese (“Uncle Junior” from “The Sopranos”), a mock audition, tips on how to prepare an acting resume, a CD and photo autographed by the cast of Jersey Boys and two tickets to the current Broadway production of Jersey Boys. The Mentoring Day will be held on Friday, June 30, 2006.
