Jersey Boys 2nd Natl Tour’s Brad Weinstock Gives the Lowdown on Frankie Camp

July 17th, 2012

The JERSEY BOYS second national tour heads to Denver’s Buell Theatre today through August 11! Denver Post’s Lisa Kennedy recently chatted with the company’s Frankie Valli–Brad Weinstock about “Frankie Camp.”

People think when they hear Frankie Camp — my mom certainly did — that I was going to go to upstate New York, water ski with a bunch of Frankies and make lanyards,” actor Brad Weinstock joked on the phone from Dallas, where the national tour of the show stopped before coming to Denver. ” Jersey Boys” opens Tuesday at the Buell Theatre and runs through Aug. 11.

The gathering, which can last as long as a week, turns out to be more boot camp than summer idle. Which doesn’t make it any less fascinating and perhaps makes it even more rewarding for the actors who win the opportunity to portray Valli.

“It’s kind of like being in a bizarre ‘Twilight Zone,’ ” says Weinstock, one of two Frankies for the Denver shows. “You’re with 10 guys all 5 foot 8 or under, vaguely Italian or Greek, Jewish — you know. All singing really high. It definitely makes you feel not as unique as you hoped you were.”
