Jersey Boys–A Shoo-in for a Tony Nod?

May 12th, 2006

With Tony nomination announcements coming out in a few days (5/16/06), the press is doing a great job with their speculations and predictions. Here’s today’s latest scoop on Jersey Boys:

New York Post’s Michael Riedel: On the musical front, once you get past Jersey Boys (which everybody loves) and The Drowsy Chaperone (for which there is more affection than love), the nominators are all over the place.

Associated Press: Let’s start with the most likely nominees. Jersey Boys, the backstage story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, is a cinch. Good reviews and boffo box office means a certain nomination.

As far as Best Actor in a Musical, the AP states,

“Connick would seem to be a shoo-in for his Broadway debut in the Roundabout Theatre Company revival of The Pajama Game. His main competition for the actor-musical prize appear to Michael Cerveris, the bloody barber in Sweeney Todd; John Lloyd Young, who portrays crooner Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys; Bob Martin, the co-author and narrator-star of The Drowsy Chaperone; and Stephen Lynch, the lovesick hero of The Wedding Singer.”
