Jersey Boys: ‘A True Word of Mouth Show’

July 16th, 2009

Jersey Boys LogoKatherine Miller of Newsobserver.com states that Despite the bleak economy, business is brisk at the Progress Energy Center Memorial Hall box office as fans snap up tickets for “Jersey Boys.”

The musical based on the rise of the Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons has sold more than 50,000 tickets. About 70 percent of the available tickets for the four-week Raleigh run, which ends Saturday, have been sold, said Jim Lavery, general manager for the Progress Energy Center.

“It’s a true word-of-mouth show,” he said. “We’ve had people walking up and getting tickets the night of. It’s like a rock show 30 years ago, when you didn’t buy tickets online, you got in line.”

“Jersey Boys” has also been more of a regional draw (people have come from Virginia and the coast) than some other shows in the series, he said. And the audience has included more men than the average Broadway show and more repeat customers, Lavery said; one couple came six times.

“When the first words out of somebody’s mouth is, ‘Where’s the bathroom,’ you know they’re not from the Triangle,” Lavery said. “This is good for Raleigh.”

This article has me curious: What about you? How did you find out about JERSEY BOYS?
