JERSEY BOYS and THE LAST SHIP Come Together to Support New York Cares Coat Drive and City Harvest

December 19th, 2014

From BroadwayWorld.com: Broadway’s JERSEY BOYS and THE LAST SHIP unite to help the 26th Annual New York Cares Coat Drive and City Harvest on Saturday, December 20 at 7:45pm with “Saturday Night Scream Christmas Carols,” an opportunity for fans and friends of both shows to donate a coat or canned goods and listen to the casts sing Christmas Carols on 52nd Street in front of the August Wilson Theatre (245 West 52nd Street) and Neil Simon Theatre (250 West 52nd Street).

The brain child of JERSEY BOYS cast member Peter Gregus, “‘Saturday Night Scream Christmas Carols’ is a way to expand on the joyous fun we have every week here on 52nd Street with our long-time tradition of ‘Saturday Night Scream.’ The casts of Jersey Boys and The Last Ship combine forces to help the New York Cares Coat Drive and City Harvest. We will raise our voices together with some good old fashioned Christmas Carols and hope that our friends and fans show up with a coat or canned goods to donate while we sing. It’s a win-win. We get to sing Christmas carols, and the fans get to hear us sing them. And we’re helping others less fortunate during the holidays,” said Gregus.

Sting, who wrote the score for THE LAST SHIP and is currently appearing on stage in the musical, is expected to appear with members of the SHIP company at this event.

This year, during the 26th annual New York Cares Coat Drive, the organization has received more than 100,000 coat requests for New Yorkers in need. Donations have fallen far short of these requests. If individuals and companies can’t come out to “Saturday Night Scream Christmas Carols,” they can donate coats until December 31, 2014. To find a drop off location, visit www.newyorkcares.org

All over the city, New Yorkers help feed their hungry neighbors, by organizing food drives in their schools, apartment buildings, businesses and places of worship. To find a drop off location, visit http://www.cityharvest.org/donate-food/food-drives
