Jersey Boys Brings Four Seasons to Life in Houston!

January 19th, 2008

Everett Evans of the Houston Chronicle notes that the Tony-winning Broadway hit’s touring edition of Jersey Boys had its official press night Friday at Hobby Center. With Des McAnuff’s slick direction propelling the show briskly, the tour showcases a personable quartet of leads who harmonize smoothly onstage and even more persuasively enact the behind-the-scenes rivalries, loyalties and hostilities of the group’s journey to fame and beyond.

Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice’s book boasts sharp, wiseguy dialogue and droll lines. Probably the smartest move was to have each Season narrate a section of their story. It helps establish the four as distinct personalities whose different perspectives keep the narrative from falling into a rut.

  1. We just returned from Jersey Boys. Fantastic. Your mind never wanders for a moment. A great story and a great musical. I could go again.

  2. Check out my “review” on the forum. Loved, loved this production. I may be more emotional than the Houston Chronicle….

  3. Everett Evans is the kind of reviewer responsible for why the Four Seasons have waited 45 years to get the respect they always deserved. I don’t sense much enthusiasm in his review.

  4. I went to the Jan 18th and Jan 19th performances of the Jersey Boys in Houston they were absolutely incredible. Having seen the Broadway version in Oct of 2006 I am able to compare it to the original and can honestly say the Houston show was outstanding. There were a few minor differences between the two shows but they did not affect the quality of the show. The actors were great and the only thing I regret is that the show’s run in Houston will be so short. I would like to go again but I understand all performances are sold out.
