Jersey Boys Heads to Brisbane in July!

Jersey Boys LogoFrom BrisbaneTimes.com: Jersey Boys has been announced as the latest blockbuster musical bound for Brisbane, due to hit the Queensland Performing Arts Complex in July this year.

The rags-to-riches story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons comes north after successful seasons in Melbourne and Sydney racked up nearly three years worth of stage time.

And while it’s unclear how long the show will stay in Brisbane, producers are no doubt hoping Jersey Boys will enjoy the same level of box office support local audiences have shown other recent big-budget musicals Mary Poppins and Doctor Zhivago.

QPAC producer Rodney Rigby of New Theatricals, who brought Rock of Ages to the Lyric Theatre November last year, said he was delighted to announce the local season.
“Brisbane will join Broadway, London, Las Vegas, and the US National tours in hosting this blockbuster hit musical,” Mr Rigby said. “Queensland — have we got a story for you!”
Fellow producer Paul Dainty described the show as a true story with universal appeal that centres on four guys who rose to fame creating some of the best loved music ever heard.

It dramatizes the forming, rise and eventual break-up The Four Seasons, a sixties rock’n'roll band, with each member taking turns to narrate different “seasons” of their career.
Original member Bob Gaudio has said the band had hit emotional nerves in ways that no other group did because the Seasons were as one with their fans.

“They moved in a tough world, the world of Bruce Springsteen, of The Sopranos, of the young Sinatra, a world where the Mafia controlled the night clubs, those who supplied them with food and drink, those who served in the clubs and those who performed in them,” he said.

“And if you fell out with them – as Tommy DeVito did – you were in trouble.”

More than one million people have seen the show in Melbourne and Sydney and more than 14 million around the world.

In Australia, Jersey Boys won two Helpmann Awards being Best Musical and Best Music Direction of a Musical and seven Victorian Green Room Awards.

It comes to Brisbane via Auckland where it opens in April. General public ticket sales begin from February 27 via www.qpac.com.au.
