Jersey Boys in Ft. Myers: Great Theater — Period.

February 23rd, 2010

Charles Rummells raves about JERSEY BOYS in Ft. Myers, summing it up by stating, “Moments like that elevate JERSEY BOYS from a mere jukebox musical.
This is great theater — period.”

True, the hit Broadway show delivers one Four Seasons hit after another — all amazing, and all pretty much the way you remembered them (as Frankie Valli, actor Joseph Leo Bwarie even manages to hit all those hair-raising high notes).

But the term “jukebox musical,” for better or worse, has come to suggest all flash and no substance. And you’ll find plenty of substance in what’s currently onstage at Mann Hall in south Fort Myers.

In between the electrifying song performances, “Jersey Boys’” creators manage economical-but-heartfelt snapshots into the legendary pop band’s rise and fall.

The story isn’t always a happy one — compare the giddy highs of the first act (the band’s glory years) to the somber lows of the second act (bickering and break-ups) — but it’s certainly an exhilarating ride. This is an expertly paced, expertly staged musical that deserves all its hype and awards.

  1. WOW, caught the show last night, cant get it out of my head, rallying up a group of gals to take to the show as I NEED to see it again. I’m totally in love with the whole production. I saw Wicked 3 times, God only knows how many times I’ll see JB’s. Bobby, Glaston, Stephen, Scott, you rocked my world. Bobby you have another fan right here. Thank you for making my year.
Hope to see you all again soon. My hand to God!
    Love Jodie.

  2. I keep saying that this is the best touring show ever. The touring cast is perfection! I have seen the touring cast 9 times in various locations and am enthralled each time. I am working on catching up with the show again soon.
