Jersey Boys in Louisville is Pure Theater!

July 31st, 2010

The first review of the JERSEY BOYS national tour production has been posted & it’s a winner! Here’s a preview:

Good thing “Jersey Boys,” currently on tour with the Broadway Across America series, is more than a flimsy excuse to air out a handful of your father’s old records. The Tony Award-winning history of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons is pure theater, from their rough beginnings as small-time hoods singing on street corners all the way to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame.

Bwarie plays Valli from his awkward teenage years all the way to the present, a mean feat for such a baby face. But it’s his voice we’re really after, and Bwarie nails the Valli wail. Let me be blunt: he’s about as close to Valli as you can get without climbing into the man’s lap. But it’s swaggering Bailey as cocky, explosive Tommy who brings the sex appeal to a show that (let’s not forget) is still about rock ‘n’ roll, am I right? Frankie might have the voice, but Tommy had the moves.

Folks who remember the hits when they were new will enjoy it for the nostalgia factor alone, but there’s more to this story than the songs.
