Jersey Boys WOW Carnegie Hall

May 15th, 2006

Jersey Boys Blog is pleased to present special correspondent Fran Gatto’s review of the Gala celebration of the New York Pops “Birthday Gala 88 Keys for Skitch.”

Wow! All I can say is “Oh what a night!” I was in the audience at Carnegie Hall for the Gala celebration of the New York Pops “Birthday Gala 88 Keys for Skitch.”

What a collection of great American music, classical show tunes, a full orchestra, and a salute to Skitch Henderson, for his achievements and how he brought the music he loved to the public. It was such a thrill to see and hear luminaries such as Liza Minnelli, Marvin Hamlisch, Darlene Love, Kid Rock, Elaine Stritch, Ahmet Ertegun, and more outstanding performers. But the biggest thrill for me was watching the cast from Jersey Boys do what they do best….take command of the stage and fill that prestigious room with the joy their music bring to a crowd. From my 10th row, center seat (how did I get so lucky?), I could see the sparkle in each of the guy’s eyes as they were performing to the full orchestra. They each had the biggest smiles on their faces! You just know they love what they do and the audience reciprocates that love right back. When you see the guys perform, you want to thank each one of them personally for what they’ve done, their talents, lifelong sacrifices, and congratulate them on all the notoriety they are receiving. John, Christian, Daniel, Bobby…THANK YOU! You’ve made it to the great stage. Now if anyone asks you, “Do you know how to get to Carnegie Hall?” You can say, “Practice…Practice!”
