Correspondent R. Scott Reedy has a great piece on Joseph Leo Bwarie, who will be playing Frankie Valli in JERSEY BOYS national tour’s return to Boston next week. Here’s a preview:

With family all over the Boston area, performer Joseph Leo Bwarie – who has been playing Frankie Valli in the national tour of the musical mega-hit “Jersey Boys” since 2007, including a sold-out Boston run last summer at the Shubert Theatre – wasn’t about to let somebody replace him at center stage when he learned that the Tony and Grammy award-winning musical would be returning to the Hub, this time at the Colonial Theatre, next week.

“My contract was to end in Philadelphia on Dec. 12, but I extended because I said there was no way anyone else was going to play Frankie Valli in Boston. This will be the tour’s first ever repeat city in four years on the road which is momentous. We finally get to use ‘Working our Way Back to You’ as our advertising slogan,” explained Bwarie, a 1999 graduate of Emerson College, last week by telephone. “I grew up in southern California, but my family on both my Mom’s and Dad’s sides are all from greater Boston – from Westford, to Arlington, Belmont, Brookline, and Braintree. I have family all over Massachusetts. When ‘Jersey Boys’ played Boston last summer, we did one show where the entire Shubert mezzanine was filled with just my family members.”

  1. Great article about my favorite Frankie! On the one hand, I would love to see Joe Bwarie continue playing that role for a long time. On the other hand, Joe is such an incredibly talented vocalist, so I would love to see his dream come true. Whatever happens, I wish him nothing but the best!

  2. We definitely want the best for you Joseph, but we all are so spoiled by having you with the national tour for so long…we just are not quite ready for you to leave! At least until you make it back to Atlanta.
