More Raves for West End JB & More Talk About Jersey Boys–The Movie!

March 19th, 2010

Jersey Boys LogoNathan Kay raves about JERSEY BOYS London! On Kay’s Daily Mail Party People blog, he notes that he made his way to the Prince Edward Theatre in Soho last night for the second London birthday of JERSEY BOYS. He said that he thoroughly enjoyed the show and would recommend it to anyone, who is or isn’t familiar with the work of the Four Seasons, as the songs are catchy and the story of Frankie Valli is a fascinating tale based on fact.

Before the show kicked off, Kay had some champagne around the corner at the Ivy club and mingled with the stars and production bigwigs. He soon bumped into Julian Stoneman and Michael David who told him there were plans in the pipeline for a JERSEY BOYS movie to be made.

“I can see how I want it to play out in my mind but we will just have to wait and see what happens,” Michael David told Kay. “There is definitely a movie in the pipeline and there are a number of talks happening right now so we will just have to wait and see.”

Well, we haven’t chatted about the movie version of JERSEY BOYS in awhile. Any suggestions for the cast? Who would play The Four Seasons? How about Bob Crewe? What about Mary Delgado, Lorraine, and Francine? Joe Pesci? Gyp DeCarlo? Other characters?

Who would be your dream director? Martin Scorsese? Steven Spielberg? Francis Ford Coppola? Anyone else on your list?

We’d love to hear your ideas on your dream cast, dream director, and anything else about JERSEY BOYS–The Movie!

  1. Would love to see cameo appearances from one or two of the real characters maybe Gaudio himself at the piano in one of the Club scenes.

  2. “Jersey Boys” is such a fantastic show. I really worry about a movie version. There have been very few transitions from stage to screen that were top notch. Personally, I would love a DVD of the live show.

  3. I’ve seen the original cast twice, the Vegas cast when they first opened and the Chicago cast (including the closing show) 8 times. I love them all but I sincerely believe that the original Broadway cast should do the movie. As for director, any one of the three, Scorsese, Spielberg or Coppola would do a great job and probably be Oscar and Golden Globe nominated. Also, don’t rule out Tom Hanks.

I’ve been bummed out since the closing here in Chicago and can’t wait to get back to either NYC or Vegas to see the show again. Can’t get to see it enough!

  4. If they did do a movie it wouldn’t involve any of the cast and it would be a big mistake

  5. Tom Hanks came to my mind also – he did a great job on “That Thing You Do,” though that movie had a lighter feel than I think the JB film would call for. (It also has an incredibly awesome original pseudo-60′s soundtrack, which is beside the point I know, but deserves more attention than it got.)

I’va also thought about cameos by some of the originals. My opening scene would be this – just as JB starts with the contemporary C’est Soiree La, I would start with a shot of the August Wilson from outside, adorned with JB posters and signage. Silent, maybe wind blowing. Faint strains of “Who Loves You” get louder, then an audience files out of the theater, the show just ended. Broad age range of folks; comments overheard by theatergoers as they leave; the younger ones (20′s-ish) making “Wow – who knew?” types of comments. If you watch the crowd around/behind them, you would see some originals in cameos leaving the theater. As a matter of fact to make it really fun, I’d do a Sgt. Pepper kind of thing and offer cameos to folks such as Hal Miller, Neil Sedaka, Charlie Callelo, etc. and let fans have fun picking them out. My two cents.

  6. I would like to see all the surviving members of The Four Seasons: Valli, Gaudio, DeVito, and Producer Bob Crewe in a cameo at the beginning or the end of the movie.

  7. As long as Christian Hoff is in there somewhere I will be content. :)

  8. Scorsese is my choice, i think the movie should open under the street sign in union nj (four seasons lane) where they got their name from the bowling alley on the same street. the scene can be a dedication of the street to them, as i did in june 2008, then it cuts to 4 guys singing on a street corner in newark in the late 50s. this movie should be more than what the play has, there is more to the four seasons that the play does not even mention, im from newark , from the same area, and i consider myself a 4 seasons historian, visit my store one day (yesterdays treasures in union) you will see pictures and items only someone close to the group from the begining can have. i love the group and the movie will be a smash when it does hit the screen, i wish i myself can get a tiny scene, never know…………………..

  11. It has to be Ryan Molloy, Glenn Carter, Stephen Ashfield (with Philip B or Eugene McC). Also needs to include Jye Frasca and Simon Adkins. I agree a DVD (Of the London cast!) may be better than a movie?

  12. i agree with Gladys. I would prefer a HD DVD of the current Broadway cast. If it is to be a movie – and it will be someday – I hope they do it soon enough so that jarrod spector is still young enough to play Frankie. he is the best
