Oh, What A Night for Kyrsten Green!

April 16th, 2007

Jersey Boys Blog is delighted to present an interview with Kyrsten Green, who recently made her ‘Broadway debut’ in a BC/EFA walk-on role in Jersey Boys! Kyrsten’s role was that of a bar patron in the “Moody’s Mood for Love” scene, with Peter Gregus as her date. Kyrsten talks about this once-in-a-lifetime experience; how the Jersey Boys’ cast and crew took her under their wing; and what this incredible event meant to her whole family!

JBB: Tell us about yourself.

KG: Hey there, my name is Kyrsten Elizabeth Green. I am currently ending my first year of college at West Virginia University. Here at school I am a Journalism Major with a Minor in Dance. I am a lover of the arts. I have been enrolled in Ballet classes since I was three years of age and have never given it up. I love to ski in the winter and enjoy the summer sunshine. My favorite food is string cheese and I put hot sauce on everything. As corny as it may sound, my mom is my best friend and my dad is my rock. The music on my Ipod consists of Justin Timberlake, Broadway musicals, and punk rock. I know, it’s quite the mixture!! I love to broadcast at my university’s radio station. The Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney Princess; everyone has one!! I enjoy the company of my friends, they always keep me smiling. Overall, I’m a fun-loving girl that you can almost always see dancing or in a constant conversation!!! That’s me in a nutshell, nothing great but enough to keep you going!!

JBB: When did you first hear about Jersey Boys, and what sparked your interest in the show?

KG: I first heard about Jersey Boys through my dad. He is always looking up different tickets for me because he knows of my love for the arts. I was very pleased to see the show and enjoyed every minute of it!

JBB: How many times have you seen Jersey Boys, and what keeps bringing you back?

KG: I have seen the show twice, once from the audience and once from behind the stage. It was one of the coolest experiences watching from backstage. The show is phenomenal. Everything about it drives me to want to see it again and again.

JBB: Congratulations on winning the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA) Jersey Boys walk-on role! Did this walk-on role come as a surprise to you? What was your first reaction when you found out you were the winner?

KG: Well, the walk-on role was definitely a surprise. My parents gave me this gift for Christmas. Easy to say it was my favorite gift I received that day. The first reaction I had when receiving the role was a mix of joy, butterflies, and sheer excitement. I couldn’t be happier.

JBB: What did you have to do to prepare for your Broadway debut? Did you have many rehearsals with the cast?

KG: When I first arrived at the theatre, I was taken under the stage to get my dress fitting. This was very exciting; they treated me as if I were a true Broadway star. After the fitting, I went to meet the cast. They were so down to earth and a great time to be around. It was a pleasure meeting the actors and actresses who won the Tony Award for Best Musical. I had one rehearsal with my “date” Peter. He was a blast to work with and kept me smiling. After my rehearsal, I went straight to Hair. The people that did my hair were also so talented. They threw it up in a fifties, suave style!!! I loved it!!

JBB: Speaking of the cast, which cast members did you meet, and did they offer you any advice on your walk-on role?

KG: I met every member of the cast. They were amazing!!!! They are very talented and inspired me in many ways. The girls were the best, and Jennifer constantly had my spirits high! I have never met such a great group of people in my life!! Christian, Bobby, JLY, and Daniel were a blast to be around!!! They treated me like part of the gang and they offered me great advice, telling me I would do great and not to be nervous. I could not ask for a better cast to work with.

JBB: What was it like being on stage in a walk-on role in the 2006 Best Musical Tony Award winner? Any outrageous stories on stage or backstage?

KG: It was the best experience of my life. On stage was so enjoyable. It is my happy place and it was much happier when I looked around and I was on stage with so many talented people. The backstage life is quite busy and was a lot of fun to watch scene changes, different costumes, and all of the cast working together!!!!

JBB: What stands out as the most memorable part of the event?

KG: The most memorable part of the whole event was the finale. I came out and was announced as the walk-on role winner. It made me feel even better knowing that I was on that stage for a great cause. It was so exciting and I will never forget that day.

JBB: What did this incredible experience mean to you and your family?

KG: This amazing experience changed my whole family. My father and I have been dancing around and singing the songs for weeks now, and my mother and I are constantly looking at the pictures from that day. My brother, who is in college, also surprised me at the show. I now feel closer to him as well. I feel that the event has influenced us all and you can expect to see us back in the future.

Jersey Boys Blog would like to thank Kyrsten Green once again for sharing her amazing Jersey Boys walk-on role experience, and we wish her all the best in her future!

  5. Kyrsten,
Sounds like a great experience. The whole cast is so wonderful and caring. I remember seeing the auction for the walk on role online…and I wondered who had won it.
Wish I could win something like that…you are very fortunate to have gone through such a great experience.
I love all the pictures. I remember being right at the sign-in board when I was there a couple of weeks ago.
