Theatrestory.com has a fun interview with JERSEY BOYS Broadway’s Joe Pesci, Russell Fischer! Here’s a preview:

TS: What is your favorite thing about working with Jersey Boys?
RF: I would say always learning something new about the show. Whether it is going back to the book and exploring new depths or going up to the fly rail and learning that the August Wilson Theater has the third highest grid on Broadway. I love working with this cast. They’re incredibly brilliant and we’re there for each other as an ensemble and as a family. They have expectations, of course, but they also have my back. One of the great things about my track is that I understudy Frankie Valli and every time I go on as Frankie, it’s an exhilarating experience from start to finish.

TS: Tell me more about your character in Jersey Boys…
RF: Playing Joey is a lot of fun because many people who come to see the show don’t know he was close friend with the guys and involved in introducing Bob Gaudio to Frankie. When I am not playing Joey, I play a myriad of different characters and they have little moments that are absolute gems. I have a blast running around the stage changing into different characters and assuming different roles. It’s a labor of love.

TS: What is the most rewarding part of your job?
RF: I would say connecting with the audience and knowing that the show resonates with them is most rewarding…knowing that we can tell the story eight times a week and someone who is new to seeing a show is experiencing it for the first time… It makes it worthwhile.

  1. Saw Russell about a year and a half ago when he first started in Jersey Boys and he was fantastic! Super talented and appealing. If you’re an agent, call him NOW!
