Say Goodbye to JLY at the Picket Line on Wednesday

November 19th, 2007

On John Lloyd Young’s blog today, he has posted a very touching thank you to the fans for our support, enthusiasm and affection throughout his entire Jersey Boys experience. Regarding his final evening on Wednesday, November 21st, JLY states:

What I am encouraged to hear is that many of you who would have otherwise been at the show on Wednesday, plan to say farewell at the picket line, instead, between 7:30 and 8, when we actors need to be there to sign in. So I look forward to saying a “goodbye for now” to all of you on Wednesday night at the picket line outside the August Wilson Theatre!

  4. This will indeed be a bittersweet night. As the de facto CEO of “Jersey Boys” the past two years, John, you’ve given us so much–graciousness, affection, recognition from the stage, and thank you’s and generosity beyond anyone’s expectations. And so many of the cast have followed your fine example.

These exist only as memories now, but wonderful ones that will carry us through a lifetime. And years from now…we’ll say, “Did it really happen? Yes it did!”

Words often come easy to me, but not tonight. I keep going back to a song from the old Sylvester Stallone/Henry Winkler movie, “The Lords of Flatbush”, which I’m paraphrasing from memory:

“And someday we’ll wonder if we ever have been there,

Someday when we’re walking down some dusty road or unfamiliar highway…

Tomorrow we may go our separate ways,

But all of us, we drink a toast to you, JLY, on this your final day.”

For me, knowing you, John, has been a wonderful dessert on the back nine of life. For others, it’s the motivation for an exciting career or a new attitude. In any case, John, you’ve mattered so much to all of us and truly made a difference. Thank you.

  7. I won’t be saying goodbye to John Lloyd at the stage door- I couldn’t bring myself to do that. I will, however, be there to say ‘Congratulations’ for his phenomenal run in Jersey Boys… one for the history books!

A performance that Broadway audiences will be talking about for the rest of time; a performance that magically transported us back to a time when music mattered more than media hype. Back to a time of emotions- raw and real.

Congratulations, John Lloyd, for finding a way, through acting, to take us somewhere inside ourselves that we had lost the directions to. There is a catharsis to great acting and you provided that every time you went on stage- and frankly, every time you came off that stage and onto the street as well.

I will be there Wednesday to say Thank You and Congratulations on a spectacular stage performance- one that was the result of hard work, discipline and unparalleled skill- one that will never be forgotten.

    But… say goodbye? Never!

  12. John LLoyd–As a fan who was at your last performance on November 9, I wholeheartedly agree with the description posted on your blog–it was “wonderful”. Thank you for that performance (and many more before that)and for standing in the rain at the stage door afterwards to talk with me. I am planning on being at the stagedoor on Nov. 21 to thank you again and to wish you the best in all your future endeavors.
