Support BC/EFA With Carols For A Cure!

November 14th, 2007

Carols For A Cure

This is a very big fund raising time for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. During November until the Gyspy of the Year presentation in early December, Broadway shows typically make appeals from the stage after the show, collect donations in buckets at the exits after the show, and sell commemorative items such as signed posters and buttons. This period has a friendly competitive factor to it in that the totals are announce at the Gypsy presentation and the show that raised the most amount of money is honored. As you can imagine, the strike has effectively ended this very important fund raising effort and leaves BC/EFA at a deficit affecting many grants and organizations supported by BC/EFA.

One of the biggest sellers during this season is the annual “Carols For A Cure” CD priced at $20.00. This year, the Jersey Boys contribution is “Dominick The Donkey” featuring Christian Hoff. This two CD set included holiday selections, both traditional and original songs, as performed by many of the casts of Broadway shows. In addition, there are other items featuring Jersey Boys as part of this season’s shows. There is a beautiful snowglobe (for some an annual treat), a throw, a Playbill poster featuring shows from this season, an ornament, mugs, umbrellas and so on and so forth. All items can be purchased from the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids store!

  1. I’ve known the song “Dominick the Donkey” for quite some time and when I found out the JB cast sang it on this year’s Carols for A Cure CD I thought it was wonderfully appropriate since it’s Dominick the ITALIAN Christmas Donkey – HEE-HAW, HEE-HAW. Dominic Nolfi serves as the Donkey of his name sake and is hilarious. I bought the CD in October and it makes me laugh everytime I listen to it. It’s completely worth it just for this one track, but there are a lot of other entertaining songs as well — “Broadway Holiday” is great.

  2. By the way, Christian and Dominic are not the only representatives from the cast. Daniel, Bobby, Michael, Peter, Colin, Heather and Erica are all on the recording as well Christian’s wife, Melissa. Many from the JB band were involved, too, including: Ken & Kevin Dow, Matt Hong and David Spier.

Oh, and nothing beats an accordian in a Christmas carol.

  3. I’m definitely going to help them out with purchases made on the BC/EFA website. In any case, since the stagehand strike is not affecting the off-off-Broadway productions like the Jersey Boys San Francisco Cast, I think we will be able to still make donations at the Curran theatre in exchange for cast signed posters or playbills like they did for the Easter Bonnet benefit.
