Tituss Burgess to Leave Jersey Boys for The Wiz

July 17th, 2006

On his website, Tituss Burgess has announced that he will be leaving the cast of Jersey Boys to star in La Jolla Playhouse’s upcoming revival of The Wiz, which is possibly Broadway-bound. His last day as a member of the Jersey Boys cast will be July 30, 2006.

Burgess will play the Cowardly Lion in The Wiz, which will be directed by Jersey Boys’ Des McAnuff. The Wiz will run at the Mandell Weiss Theatre from September 26th to November 12th. The San Diego production will also feature “the same creative team that brought Jersey Boys to fruition,” according to Burgess. Burgess also notes that “it is rumored the production will see New York next year.”

I am happy for Tituss but sad that he is leaving the Jersey Boys family.
I love his many roles that he plays in the show and will miss him dearly. He is so funny and a great singer.
