Frankie Valli Keeps Going and Going and Going…

Rege Behe of the Tribune-Review has an in-depth write-up and interview with Frankie Valli, who will be performing in concert next Tuesday and Wednesday at Heinz Hall.

Turns out Valli was only seven when his future was inexorably cast. The man he was watching in concert seemed larger than life, hypnotic and special beyond his comprehension.

Frank Sinatra in his prime would do that to just about anyone, let alone a boy from Newark, N.J.

“It was very, very unique in the sense that I’d never ever seen a live performance, and I was taken aback by it,” says Valli in advance of shows Tuesday and Wednesday at Heinz Hall. “Even as a little kid, I was always singing. At that particular time, I kind of made up my mind that’s what I wanted to do.”

Valli, who celebrates his 75th birthday on Sunday, made good on his dream. Elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 with the Four Seasons, he’s had 40 Top 40 hits, with 19 in the Top 10 and eight at No. 1. Barry Gibb, Brian Wilson and Billy Joel cite him as an influence.
