John Lloyd Young’s Thoughts on Saturday’s Concerts!

February 22nd, 2008

On Saturday evening, Tony Award-winner John Lloyd Young will be performing two concerts (at 8:30 PM and 10:30 PM) at the Allen Room located on the sixth floor at Lincoln Center.

On NJ.com, Jay Lustig has a very informative Q&A with JLY, who talks about the upcoming Lincoln Center shows. Below is a preview:

Q. Do you see this as the first step of the next stage of your career — that you’ll do a lot of concerts and, maybe, recording?

A. It’s not what I’ve set out to do: I’m an actor first and foremost. The concert is sort of an accident — a result of being an actor who played a rock ‘n’ roll superstar in a show that had a heavy concert element. So now that it’s a skill that I’m very good at, and prepared to do, it’s an obvious offshoot. But I’m still reading scripts, I’m still auditioning for roles.

Q. I have to ask: Will you sing “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” or any other “Jersey Boys” songs at these shows?

A. I’ll answer you this way: There is one song that will probably follow me around the rest of my life, and it’s the same song that’s followed Frankie around during his life. We’ve got a really great problem in common.

I will be in the first row on the end with the biggest smile on my face!!

  11. Johnny Boy! AWESOME! OH MY GOD!!! I knew you’d be great but you surpassed my every expectation. I loved “When Will I See You Again,” during your first performance and was brought to tears when you sang it at your second performance. Your concert debut was as astonishing as your broadway debut. Already miss you and feel so grateful that I was able to experiene both shows tonight!! As I always tell you John, YOU ARE THE BEST!! Relax today and enjoy the oscars!

Stay happy and healthy and by the way, when will I see you again? I’ll patiently WAIT…
WAIT… WAIT… WAIT.. WAIT Love, Grace xoxoxox

  12. John you and New York were in sync last night and the moon was full, the skies were clear and your voice was a true gem. I can’t say I have hear a better trained voice in concert since Barbara Cook at the MET. You will be there someday I’m sure. Your truly of the period (the 1960s) when you are singing your grand father Mike’s music. He must have been a wonderful man to nurture your love for this era. The whole audience truly couldn’t take there eye and ears off of you last night. All the best in all you do. A talent that will reach the ‘stars’ soon.
