Much to Love About Jersey Boys in Cleveland!

June 21st, 2008

The Plain Dealer’s Tony Brown states: judging with the eyes, ears and heart, there’s much to love about “Jersey Boys,” the hit Broadway musical about the Four Seasons, kings of doo-wop.

According to Brown, for the eyes, the Broadway design team returns to create a chain-link set straight out of less-gardenlike sections of the Garden State; what passed for fashion in Hoboken at the time; and Howell Binkley’s stark street corner and bright concert lighting. For the ears, the touring company has installed loudspeakers throughout the theater to create surround sound, pumping up the singing voices of the cast, which are generally first-rate at re-creating the sweet harmonies of the Four Seasons. And for the heart, Broadway director Des McAnuff wrings joy and tears from Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice’s story about the working-class guys who rise to stardom, fall from favor and are ultimately redeemed.

  1. No surprise that they are a hit in Cleveland. I saw the tour group 6 times in Houston and loved every minute of it. I can’t wait to see them again in Dallas in August. Contrats to the whole cast and crew, they just keep “going, and going, and going”.

  2. I’m glad Jersey Boys is receiving tons of more success. It’s obvious that it’s a hit, though! Congrats to the Cleveland cast! You’ve made a great impression. When I saw the show in Chicago for the first and only time so far, I found that it is a show that no other musical can compete with, in my opinion. It’s the best…..
