Tommy DeVito Stays With His Guitar

July 8th, 2007

Original Four Seasons member Tommy DeVito admits to Star-Ledger reporter Jay Lustig that his singing days are over. DeVito admits, “I don’t have the chops; I’m not going to fool myself.”

However, as a guitarist, his skills are still there, and he proves it on his first solo album, “A Man 4 All Seasons: 1st Season — Summer,” a collection of guitar-led instrumentals. The material is mostly American and Italian standards, such as “Tennessee Waltz,” “Piscatore ‘E Pusilleco,” “I Have But One Heart,” and “Amapola.”

DeVito notes, “It actually goes back to the first group we had, called the Varietones. Then it became the Four Lovers, and then the Four Seasons. We would play these (songs) in the clubs that we worked, around the city of Newark, and Bloomfield.”

The album can be ordered on tommydevito.com.

  1. Tommy, I enjoyed this CD and each of the aforementioned songs. But I absolutely love your rendition of “Come si Bella,” and I replay it over and over.

Re your singing days being over, that’s not what I hear from our mutual friend Jim Petrecca. You told me that Christian and Deven “do you better than you do you” (your exact words). Well, I understand you do Frankie’s falsetto “ALMOST as well as Frankie himself” (Jim’s words). I think you should make an “executive decision” and reconsider!!
