  1. John your version of What a Wonderful World was unbelieveably awesome. Your voice was perfect. You did such a great job, I’m hoping you will release on single CD or consider doing an album. Your talent needs to be shared with more people. What a great job you did, you do make this world a more wonderful place.

  2. That rendition was extremely soulful and touching. What better way to watch the fireworks show by listening to JLY honor America’s birthday in that manner, not to mention his own birthday as well!

I noticed that compared to Louis Armstrong’s deep gravelly tone, JLY’s version complete with JB falsetto knocked it out of the park and would have made “Satchmo” very proud.

Thanks to you and the other Tony Award winners for your musical gift on the 4th!

  3. A great performance! The stars are completely in alignment for this since it’s JLY’s birthday and he’s singing for the fireworks. *sighs* it was a really beautiful and moving sight. i LOVED his version of the song. WOW!!!

  4. John, I too loved your singing “What a Wonderful World” – it was beautiful! You really should consider doing an album. When they showed the woman and little one in the crowd looking up at the sky and then your voice in the background….it was so sweet and “All American.” A nice Birthday Gift for you to be one of the few to sing at this great celebration!!

  6. Catherine, I too get goose bumps when I hear this song, reflecting on its playing over the series of bombings in “Good Morning Vietnam” in the 1980′s.

This part is my absolute favorite:

    I see friends shaking hands
    Saying “how do you do”
They’re really saying “I love you.”

    I hear babies cry
    I watch them grow
    They’ll learn much more
    Than I’ll ever know
    And I think to myself
    What a wonderful world

And you’re right…JLY is terrific. In addition to his and Satchmo’s, I also liked Anne Murray’s version of about ten years or so ago.
