Christopher Kale Jones’ Broadway Hopes
August 31st, 2007Dixie Reed has an in-depth interview with Christopher Kale Jones, who states that after he saw the Broadway hit Jersey Boys early last year, he wanted to play the part of Frankie Valli on the Great White Way.
He may get his chance yet, but for now, he’s living out his dream on the road. Jones portrays the lead singer of the iconic 1960s group the Four Seasons in the national touring company of Jersey Boys.
The 29-year-old tenor, who is from Hawaii, is under contract with the show until early December. Jones may be asked to continue with the tour, or if Tony winner John Lloyd Young, who originated the role on Broadway, decides to move on, Jones is poised to step in.
“There’s always a chance I can make it to Broadway,” Jones says.
“It would be a great opportunity to be the first guy cast after John Lloyd Young on Broadway. He may choose to stay a lot longer. It’s quite a role, and he’s enjoyed doing it, but if he goes, the producers choose who they want, and there is a strong chance it might be me.”

You mentioned to me a few months ago that, uncertain of where you might be in a year, you’d given up your apartment in New York City. Wouldn’t it be ironic if you did indeed end up on Broadway??
One of your best personal qualities is that you take the time to say “thanks” to your mentors, friends, and fans. My most amusing Chris Jones story is when I sent you an inexpensive gag gift that was a takeoff on your middle name, “Kale” (yeah, yeah, by now we all know it’s pronounced kah-lay, and not like the vegetable!!), and you responded with a thank-you e-mail as if I had just sent the Hope Diamond!!
You’re an amazing talent and an amazing man, Chris. Glad you’re finally getting some well-deserved great press. This is just the beginning of a terrific career!

I have read your interview with Chris (a great interview) and am excited to hopefully see Chris in Jersey Boys in Tampa. My daughter is getting tickets for the Tampa show, I am really looking forward to seeing Chris in JB and getting to meet him after the show.

What an exciting turn of events for Chris! He is an AMAZING talent and a truly wonderful person and he deserves all the success that life can give him. I had an experience very similar to Howard’s where Chris thanked me for a birthday gift I gave him as if I was one of his dearest friends. He was also so very kind to my family when we came to see him in LA and he always anwers every email that I send him.
Bless him and I so hope his dream of being on Broadway finally happens!

My Sister-in-Law and her Husband saw Jersey Boys in California. Now they want to see it on Broadway. They want to see JLY. I hope when we do get tickets that he will be on that day. She wants seats like I had, third row center.So my point being is it’s going to be quite awhile 4 tickets at those prices! They might come to NY to see Chris on Broadway,instead of JLY!

Is this an announcement of John Lloyd’s replacement? What does this mean for Michael and Travis? I can’t imagine the show without JLY. I hope when JLY leaves JB, we will be able to see him in something else.
