Des McAnuff–Inspired by The 4 Seasons

August 17th, 2008

With Jersey Boys beginning previews at the Toronto Centre for the Arts on Thursday and opening on August 24, Toronto newspapers are treating readers to some interesting stories about the Tony Award winning musical!

John Coulbourn of TorontoSun.com has an in-depth interview with Des McAnuff, who noted that the first album he purchased back in 1962 was “Sherry & 11 Others” by The Four Seasons. For the impressionable young McAnuff, buying that album was memorable for more than just the music.

Over 40 years later, McAnuff was directing Jersey Boys, the musical story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, teaming with writers teaming with writers Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice to transform the lives and the hits of Valli and his bandmates into The Jersey Boys–a smash Broadway musical.

  1. Des McAnuff was way ahead of the curve, not only buying Four Seasons RECORDS, but Four Seasons ALBUMS in 1962! The kids in my neighborhood had the “spinning rainbow spectrum” Vee Jay 45s! It got kind of confusing when Beatles records started appearing with that label and others. 1964 was a really confusing year with groups appearing on two or more labels!
